Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can _target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:04, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bus articles

edit

Hello, thanks for your help in improving bus route articles and adding the route diagrams Garuda3 (talk) 17:48, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Much obliged. Still learning the Routemap template, so any pointers or advice, let me know.
If you know a thing or two about routemaps, would be thankful if you could help with an (accessibility?) issue raised around Template:EastRider X46/X47: how, within the routemap MOS, do I distinguish between both the X46 and X47 when they split at Beverley Road? Do I just insert 'X46' or 'X47' in Template:Small text, or should I do the split point in separate red and blue lines? Hullian111 (talk) 19:34, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
To be honest, I hate editing those route maps whether it's buses or trains. I would have separate lines, though would keep them the same colour. That's just my gut feeling, I'm not sure if there's an accepted standard. Garuda3 (talk) 19:39, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ah, alright then, maybe some on the folks over on WP:BUSES may have a clearer consensus.
Again, thanks for the feedback; just put up a new(ish) image over on Flyer (bus service), may snap up a routemap if I can figure out how to fit all three routes onto one map. Hullian111 (talk) 20:19, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just had a thought - do you have an article in mind to include that template on? There are people who will search for unused templates and nominate them for deletion. Garuda3 (talk) 20:44, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Prep work for a greater EastRider article I'll probably start off as a draft sooner or later. Bit shaky about notability at the moment, though. If it doesn't work out and gets deleted, then ah well, it was a good exercise. Hullian111 (talk) 20:48, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Police vehicles in Spain

edit

The article Police vehicles in Spain has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Largely outdated and incomplete WP:FANCRUFT - ideally, this should have remained a draft. I have no idea what sources I used when making this article and unless someone else wants to develop the article, I don't see any further development coming.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your recent revert to London Buses route 142

edit

Hello. I see you have reverted the edit I have done to add a new image to be more accurate on the operator. You're saying it could be deleted due to a "copyright issue", but I actually took this photo myself, I didn't steal it from the internet. My question is: Why? Why is it probably a "copyright issue" if I was the one that took the picture? Please resolve this as soon as possible. Thank you. — Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 07:03, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Well, if you had addressed the issue in the Commons file's talk page, I'd have sorted it out a bit quicker and possibly prevented the reversion.
Really, I'm just acting out of an abundance of caution. The lack of EXIF data on the image, lining up woth that YouTube thumbnail, as well as your past record on the Commons, leads me to be a fair bit suspicious. I've been stung a few times by images I've categorised that have turned out to be copyright violations, hence the caution and reversion; if all's well and if you can absolutely positively confirm the image is yours, then I'll be happy to reinstate your images.
Or either way, you can just hit undo on my edit. Hullian111 (talk) 11:33, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi there.
I didn't know that I had to go to the images' talk page to confirm the image is mine. I also didn't know what EXIF data is so I didn't put that much data in as I didn't know, sorry. Yes, the image is mine and I took the photo on the 31 May 2023 at Brent Cross Shopping Centre. So is it ok if you can reinstate the image as I have now confirmed it is mine?
Thanks. — Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 11:45, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough then, now that that's solved. I'll see if I can get around to it in the next half hour - if anything, it'll just need a bit of cropping to get the person's face out of it, but other than that, think the matter sounds safely resolved. Hullian111 (talk) 11:47, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Alright then, thanks. I'll try to crop it out. If I can't, is it fine if you could?
Thanks. — Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 11:51, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I can't manage to crop the picture, is it fine if you can please?
Thanks. — Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 11:59, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Cropping on the Commons requires the use of the Commons:CropTool. Don't worry, I have that, I'll sort the crop out for you. Hullian111 (talk) 12:00, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. — Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 12:04, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Adding onto that, I made that photo for one of my YouTube channels' (TheNorthLondonBusGuy) videos on the Full Route Visual on the 142.
Thanks. — Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 11:50, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Switch Meteodecker

edit

A tag has been placed on Switch Meteodecker requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Help me!

edit

Please help me with... editing 'Publisher' field in citations of Coach & Bus Week magazine after 2012 to not feature Emap as the publisher.

The following search (as of 24 March 2024) lists that 121 articles feature Coach & Bus Week with the publisher listed as Emap, based out of Peterborough. According to the CBW wiki article, Emap only owned CBW until 2005, then from 2012 onwards, the magazine has been published by Coach & Bus Week Ltd. in Peterborough, so it would probably be better off leaving the 'Publisher' field blank.

Unfortunately, it would appear I have made way too many edits featuring Emap where not appropriate, and thus, I am unable to perform those edits in a reasonable amount of time. A hint for editors to work out what to delete is that the problematic links are usually the ones that link to the CBW website. Hullian111 (talk) 12:47, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

The page in question is not protected, and you have not been warned or blocked for making these sorts of edits. In addition, you have made similar edits to other pages, so I am not quite sure why you need assistance with this page in particular. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}} with further explanation of the issue, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 13:16, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, right. Its more the fact that there's just so many pages to sift through and remove 'Emap' from the citation. I did think that the rationale was just to tag the single article and link to the search results and hope that will do; will probably try the Help Desk instead. Hullian111 (talk) 13:18, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ah, yes, I just re-read your question and understand better now. Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks is the place to make a mass-edit request like this. Primefac (talk) 13:38, 24 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Leeds Wikipedia meetup on Saturday 4th May

edit

Hello there! Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There's a meetup in Leeds on Saturday 4th May 2024, at the Tiled Hall Café at Leeds Central Library.

Full details here.

You're receiving this one-off message as you're either a member of WikiProject Yorkshire, you've expressed an interest in a previous Leeds meetup years ago, or (for about 4 of you), we've met :)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Please also invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Hope to see you there.

WP:CAPTION

edit

Hi there. You have reverted my edit on London Buses route 486 for removing the date on the image in the infobox. It clearly says in some London Superloop articles that someone removed the date of the image caption, saying it's part of WP:CAPTION, so it needs to be removed here. I'll remove it shortly. Is that fine on your end? Thanks. Pedroperezhumberto (talk) 17:05, 23 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm no arbritrator of these sorts of things (even though it kind of looks like I am with my big edits), so I wouldn't know; I don't tend to make any edits on the Superloop articles outside of adding the Wikidata stuff. I'm of the mind, though, that despite perhaps tacking on some additional length to the caption, dates do provide context to images (i.e. bus formerly used on the M1 pictured in October 2005). In that case, I'm not quite sure why they would be taken out by the other user. I'll rest my revert case, I just found it a bit odd, really. Hullian111 (talk) 17:14, 23 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Manchester bus routes Pages edit request

edit

Hi Hullian, I would like you to help with expanding pages of routes 38, X50, 216 if you have information on them. Is that ok? TL9027 (talk) 22:06, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Afraid that if you haven't checked my userpage yet, I'm rather busy at the moment. I'd be happy to have a look if I had some more free time, but my big final assignment is due early next month, so I'm going to have to focus all energy on wrapping that up.
I would, however, suggest going down the userspace draft route as opposed to plunging your articles straight into mainspace. You'll have the space to finish up your edits on them before putting them out there, and even if your drafts get rejected, you'll still get some useful advice from your asssessors.
To be honest, though, Manchester routes 38, X50 and 216 are ones I've never heard of before, and quite a few London bus route (non-major routes, bear in mind) articles have been removed for lack of notability, so you might be facing a slight uphill battle. Maybe tag in WikiProject Buses for the time being and see if they can offer some support in the meantime. Still might be able to come in for a couple of clerical edits, i.e. captions and image categories on Commons, though. Hullian111 (talk) 22:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
There is a draft on Greater Manchester route 100. Can you expand it with extra sources to meet the Notability for it to be published? Besides, you may help to expand the Greater Manchester route 8 page.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Greater_Manchester_bus_route_100
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Manchester_bus_route_8

TL9027 (talk) 16:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@TL9027 I won't lie, I've been mulling over my response to this for a little while. When I said 'I'm rather busy at the moment', that wasn't an invitation to spam links into my talk page and request edits to the articles that I cannot do at this point in time.
As well as that, please be aware that mass Greater Manchester bus route article deletions for failed notability have happened before and will most likely happen again. I support keeping up the 135 article because it has a degree of notability, hence editing it up to standard, but I'm afraid Greater Manchester bus route 8 was deleted in 2016 for a good reason: without the copied-in bendy buses segment (which is also completely wrong, Transport Designed states the B10LA Wrights were moved from the 135 to the 8 in 2005), there's no bones to the article at all. It's just an ordinary bus route from Shudehill to Bolton, which AFAIK, doesn't have the same staying power as London Buses route 8. Unless there's some notable and detailed history that can be dug up from archive sources, for example, it will most likely be deleted again.
To be brutally honest, the only good thing that can be salvaged from the articles are the updated images that can be used around the Wikipedia mainspace. I'd recommend you keep that up, because Wikipedia is lacking in Bee Network photos. Hullian111 (talk) 21:08, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
So I may wait for you to be active again to join in editing routes 8 and 100, hoping we may improve the articles again with your information and photos provided. TL9027 (talk) 21:29, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
As I can still barely see the '135' number covered by green TFGM logo sticker on some ex GNW buses under Stagecoach Manchester, I really can tell that GNW promoted that route well, leading to that route 135 very popular and gained adequate notability to let it quite likely to be kept on wikipedia, right? "Frankly terrible image"

edit

I'd hardly call this a "frankly terrible image".

It would certainly have been better if it had showed the front of the vehicle, but that image was all that was available at the time I added it to the article. Other than that shortcoming, it's still technically better in every other respect than the somewhat murky print scan that replaced it, even after I'd tidied that one up a bit. Ubcule (talk) 18:23, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't know, you do raise some fair points, and considering the fact that the image was all that was available prior to uploading the Eddie Leslie shot, I do accept that my language was a touch brash for an edit summary. I just don't think that a severely-cropped preserved bus image would've stayed long if there's an era-appropiate 'murky' shot of a similar vehicle, though. Regarding Metroline Manchester

edit

Hi, Hullian, you are so lucky having me. I am a Wikipedian currently living in Stockport. And may help provide photos for editing Metroline Manchester page or even routes which will be operated by them starting from 2025 as many routes currently operated by Stagecoach Manchester will be handed over to them. P.S. One of them being 203, serving my area, as buses on this route are actually dispatched from Hyde Road garage. TL9027 (talk) 19:47, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Glad to hear in that respect. I'll see how things go in the trade press before I start making any major edits to the draft, as there... well, isn't a whole lot out there at the minute. Notice how I'm relying on the one Buses article over most of the other cites. As such, I'm not planning on submitting the Metroline Manchester article for mainspace until its closer to January 2025 and/or more information goes public (there's a document by Metroline with route and vehicle allocations for each depot going around, but I can't cite it because its am internal company PDF pack), but tips and advice would be welcomed for further edits.
The thing I'm trying to do with the draft is to lay it out like the London article. In terms of the 'Depots' section (or are they also called 'Garages' over there?), however, the only good sources I have on garage histories is for Hyde Road (even that source is marginal at best) and Sharston. The other depots (and Sharston, too) look like they've been set up in the middle of industrial estates in recent years, meanwhile, which makes their histories a bit complicated. At this stage, depending or not Metroline goes public with its route allocations (e.g. getting an article detailing them in Coach & Bus Week or routeone), I'm not totally sure if the section will stay ahead of publishing for mainspace.
I'll probably give you a shout if anything comes up. Give me a shout likewise if anything does, as, well, Bee Network news travels slow on the other side of the Pennines.
P.S. I will be at the Trafford Centre next Saturday ahead of the rugby, and while I can't make any guarantees that I'll be able to do it, I'll try to get some Bee Network-related photos at the bus station to put on the Commons. Hullian111 (talk) 09:27, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Hullian111:Another issue is Wikipedia lacks photos of Magic Bus in current livery. That livery is similar to the current Stagecoach local livery, with the Stagecoach logo is colored blue with yellow stars. To get them, you may use bustimes to look for their location and take one before it is too late (getting repainted to Bee Network livery, many of them will be acquired by Metroline Manchester as most of them are based at Hyde Road garage). TL9027 (talk) 09:59, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sadly, I'll be nowhere near Oxford/Wilmslow Road come Saturday, so catching the Magic Bus fleet won't be a possibility. I'm, however, still planning a wider day trip to central Manchester and the MoTGM before the year is out, so I'll see what happens when those plans get sorted. Hullian111 (talk) 10:20, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Magic Bus fleet sometimes can also be found on bus routes which uses the Hyde Road corridor or even other routes. I have seen their appearance on the 43, 86,, 103, 192, 201, 203 and 250 before as most of them were based on Hyde Road depot. Just use bustimes and you may spot one near you. My pleasure. Won't lie, this has been something of a passion project for a long time now, and given the earlier merger proposal, I wasn't sure whether I might go through with it or not.
