Tenure Subsection

JerzeyKydd, I am trying to make the House of Representatives pages easier to read and consistent with the Senate, I used Nancy Pelosi's page [the speaker for the house] as the blue print, there is no information on the House of Representatives project page prohibiting this or suggesting that their should be no Political Positions section. Many of these pages have excessively long and arduous tenure explanations with many subsections, I am just trying to make this easier to read for wikipedians, please advise, (im not trying to step on any toes!) I am also trying to create sub-sections for the Tenure of article Virgil Goode. I found the article has five controversies and issues surrounding Virgil. These have been described in the article and appropriately sourced. Shouldn't they have their own sub-section like other House of Representatives pages do?

It would make the article easier to search and make it easier for readers to find information about him by looking at the index. You have reverted three of my edits that are related to formatting the page better and your only comment is "Not necessary". "Not Necessary" is not a justification.

Just to add to the above, showing respect for your fellow Wikipedians, Jerzeykydd, means providing an explanation when you are reverting their work. "Not necessary" is not an explanation. You know what's "not necessary"? Wikipedia. After all, humans survived for millennia without it. But that doesn't mean Wikipedia is not USEFUL. Is there some reason why ourcampaigns.com should be considered a reliable source?

You've used ourcampaigns.com as a source in a lot of article citations. For example, without that source (cited three times), your article on Lee Anderson would have only one primary source and one secondary source, which would be clearly inadequate to establish notability.

Per this page, the ourcampaigns.com site seems to be essentially a wiki - anyone with an account can post anything they want. And that would make it unreliable - WP:RS says:

"... self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable. This includes any website whose content is largely user-generated, including the Internet Movie Database, Cracked.com, CBDB.com, collaboratively created websites such as wikis, and so forth, with the exception of material on such sites that is labeled as originating from credentialed members of the sites' editorial staff, rather than users."

But I'm still trying to understand why you believe this website meets the criteria of being a reliable source. You said "ourcampaigns.com is reliable because ... everything is sourced." That's not the Wikipedia criteria. But it does suggest that you should start citing the underlying source that provide the information for any given ourcampaigns.com page. For example, in the Lee Anderson article, the first ourcampigns.com page linked to as a footnote, http://www.ourcampaigns.com/RaceDetail.html?RaceID=466532 ), seems to have an underlying source of http://sos.georgia.gov/elections/election_results/2006_1107/swgahouse.htm . It's much better to cite the georgia.gov cite (a primary source, so less preferred than a secondary, but clearly reliable), if only for the obvious credibility that it conveys. (In any case, footnotes should be more than just a naked url.)
I do appreciate the work that you do here. We're all volunteers here, and you, like me, are trying to improve Wikipedia. And specifically, because I'm not a deletionist, I'm not going to propose deleting the Lee Anderson article (and I'm not going to look through your past edits; I have a life, too), though I have real doubts about whether that individual meets the notability requirements of Wikipedia. But I do want to strongly suggest that in the future, when creating new articles, that you start with the question of "Can I find sources that show this person/subject is notable?", as opposed to "What sources can I find to support the article that I'm going to write because my own personal criteria say that this person/subject should have a Wikipedia article?" -- John Broughton (♫♫) 13:43, 28 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Lois Frankel

A couple of things about the former West Palm Beach Mayor who I happened to have spent an afternoon with in 2005.[1]

1- You used male pronouns on multiple when referring to her in the paragraph on her time in the State House.

2- Frankel wasn't reelected in 1994. She defeated Mimi McAndrews, a former aide to Frankel, who succeeded her in the State House.

Sharon Cissna

You recently added content to Sharon Cissna, presumably in response to news events of her most recent candidacy. As A) Wikipedia sees too many political biography articles which serve little purpose beyond parroting sanitized biographies found elsewhere on the Internet; and B) drive-by article creation/expansion is just as pernicious as any other form of drive-by activity which people do actively criticize, a list of issues with the additions and differences in Cissna's biography in general were posted to the article's talk page. The biggest issue is the veiled portrayal of Cissna as a Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington sort of character, when in fact she's been heavily involved in politics in Alaska for decades. Your perusal of same, or any comments and suggestions, is encouraged. This includes whether external help is necessary to resolve any of these issues or otherwise improve the article. Unsourced Deb Fischer slogan

You recently added the putative slogan of Deb Fischer's US Senate campaign to that article, in this diff. I don't find the slogan anywhere in the source cited; and as a Nebraskan who follows politics somewhat closely, can't remember ever having seen it.

I'd like to stress the importance, in articles dealing with current controversies and candidates, of having all material accurately sourced and cited. I'd also like to stress the undesirability of inserting unsourced material under an existing footnote. I'm sure it wasn't intentional on your part, but it gives the appearance of an attempt to sneak in material of your own invention and trusting that no one will notice that it's not actually supported by the footnote. It's the sort of mistake we often see made by IP editors who don't have much WP experience and really don't see the need for all those footnotes anyway; but experienced editors like you and I should know to avoid that sort of thing. If you take a look at WP:MINOR, I think you'll see that it's for changes that are so completely trivial and uncontroversial that nobody could ever complain.
