I agree that the section is poor, obviously. However, there's obviously such a thing as "Manhaj Islam Hadhari" that used to be encouraged by the former prime minister or whatever... do you propose that there should be no information on it? Obviously you know WP policies better, but that doesn't sound right. I honestly have nothing to do with the subject and have no intention of researching it, if I edited the section according to what I know it would probably say close to nothing at all. ʝunglejill 23:54, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

It was created with the purpose of notify readers that the page is widely visible and edited at the moment they are reading the article, and many information may change rapidly. Also it is used if an event, like a disaster or a spaceflight, is continuous. Another option to add it is what users did at Occupy the Farm (adding the category "Current events" without the template), but I don't know the validity to do that. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Capitalization of dodo

edit

Hi Junglejill. I saw your question about it. I'm afraid dodo should be lower case. It isn't a proper noun and, as a species name, it's subject to MOS:LIFE in the Manual of Style. Kind regards, --Stfg (talk) 09:38, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that. Looking again, it seems to depend on what the IOC lists say. I'll look further. --Stfg (talk) 09:43, 12 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Now although its good to come back at here, but unfortunately many of the articles, including the Arab Spring itself has a lot of un-written important events and major errors, for example the 3rd Jordanian premier resigns and the anti-regime in Mauritania (just to let you know for trivia) and the duration of revolts in Egypts ENDs at 18 days ONLY. hi marvins room is on the en wiki by drake maybe someone could fix trust issues up a lil bit. --Jme113k (talk) 13:54, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, for some reason I couldn't find who Drake was before. Removed the tag for now but the song probably doesn't deserve its own article. Will take a look later. ʝunglejill 14:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I have removed your CSD nomination at Trust Issues (song). A redirect is not eligible for deletion under WP:CSD#A1. Trust Issues (song) was turned into a redirect by User:TexasAndroid for the reason that the subject has "no indication of independent notability" for an article. As you nominated it for deletion under CSD, I'm assuming you don't challenge the view that the article shouldn't exist. If you think the redirect also shouldn't exist, then you should take this up at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion. Thanks! -- KTC (talk) 22:12, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for letting me know. Isn't this too bureaucratic? Let me recap: someone created this as an ungrammatical, completely deletable one-liner about a non-notable musical recording. I patrolled the page and marked it for speedy deletion. The creator then informed me that this song is by a famous rapper - I didn't realize this, because he wrote Drakes instead of Drake. I was in a hurry to fulfill a meatspace obligation, so I removed the speedy deletion template just to be sure, and figured I'd take care of it later. Another editor then blanked the page and turned it into a redirect to Drake's discography. I have no idea why - no pages link to it, and even if they did, they shouldn't - someone who clicks on "trust issues (song title)" doesn't want to be redirected to the discography; they clicked because they thought there was an article with something interesting to say about it. Now you're telling me it can't be speedy deleted on a technicality - this is the time to ignore all rules and just get rid of this misbegotten creation. ʝunglejill 22:40, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
If I'd not erred on the side of caution and left the speedy deletion template up, the article would've been a goner. I see that I'm allowed to expand a redirect into an article. If you're uncomfortable with deleting it, I'm going to "expand" it back into its original state and nominate it for speedy deletion. Does this sound absurd enough? ʝunglejill 23:00, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
It's not unusual to redirect a page where the subject doesn't stand up on its own as an article into a parent subject, whether that be song -> album, artist or whatever. (See Category:Redirects from songs for examples.) Hopefully the _target mention the subject in some way, but that's not always the case. As long as the _target of a redirect is relevant, it does no harm and is potentially useful to someone. I've re_targeted the redirect to Take Care where Trust Issues are mentioned. -- KTC (talk) 23:23, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I totally disagree that it does no harm. As someone who's used Wikipedia for years as a non-editor, I can tell you it's very annoying to click on a link because you think there's some notable content behind it and end up on some generic article like a discography. I'm pretty sure laziness is the only reason this redirect was born. Whatever, file this one for the lolz/wtf. ʝunglejill 23:41, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I can understand your point of view even if I disagree with it. As I said before, if you have a problem with a specific redirect, then you can bring it up at WP:RFD. If you want to bring up the general issue of redirects such as this, then I'm sure you will get a lively discussion at Wikipedia:Requests for comment. On the point of laziness, not really as the editor who changed it to a redirect in the first place is an administrator who could just as easily had deleted it. -- KTC (talk) 23:51, 14 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Copy Edit Request as Per Invitation

edit

Hi, Jill. The page is Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud. There are issues with command of English throughout the article, but it is currently being actively edited as the subject died very recently. If you want to copy edit it quietly go ahead, but I wouldn't be too noisy about it as at least one of the regular editors of that article is kinda touchy. Guyovski (talk) 22:28, 16 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. It doesn't seem to have any glaring mistakes. I think 97% of Wikipedia articles are at about the same level of writing as this article. In my opinion, it doesn't merit a {{copy edit}} template; when there are so few mistakes, one should just correct them rather than put a template. Also, please note that foreign language sources are perfectly acceptable where no English counterpart exists. I think you misunderstood me; I only suggested to copyedit because I thought it was important to you. ʝunglejill 22:44, 16 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hey there. If you can read between the lines, what it says there is this: "I don't understand what the issue is" means you sent me a long talk page, I scanned it and could not locate what the issue is. "I don't understand what I could help with" means if you have a personal problem with an editor, I cannot intervene on your behalf if no violation of policy has occurred; if violation has occurred, then there are people on Wikipedia who deal specifically with that. Lastly, "sorry" means no offense is meant, and I am still being responsive and helpful. The Tea Leaf - Issue Five

edit

Stop by for a tasty glass of wiki-iced tea at the Teahouse, today!

Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteer who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
  • More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
  • Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
  • New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
  • Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.

The Tea Leaf - Issue Six

edit

Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!

  • Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.

A lovely little teahouse nestled in Germany from Wiki Loves Monuments
  • Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
  • Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.
  • New host process implemented which encourages anyone to get started as a Teahouse host in a few easy steps. Stop by the hosts page and become a Teahouse host today!
  • Host lounge renovations nearing completion. Working closely with Teahouse hosts, we've made some major renovations to the Teahouse Host Lounge - the main hangout and resource space for hosts. Learn more about the improvements here.

As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

Hello! I'm sorry I missed your message; I was away for an extended period and wasn't able to be on very much. My password is currently on a CD at my home of record, so I've had to be anonymous for some time now. Shame Wikipedia's gotten so anti-anon these days, as a side note. Anyway, you're quite welcome to copy the layout—I copied it from Misza13, after all. :p Octane [improve me?] 16.09.12 2121 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can _target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:38, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
