Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Field hockey at the 2022 Asian Games – Women's tournament, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Navneet Kaur. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

edit

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer   Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. "Ranks and decorations" edit conflict in Sam Manekshaw webpage

edit

Hello User:Matarisvan It has been observed that you have spent considerable time editing the Wikipedia webpage on Sam Manekshaw. In particular, you have chosen to remove the "Dates of Rank" and "Awards and decorations" subsection from the webpage. Kindly remember, the subject person is from the military, thus making the promotions he received and the awards he was conferred upon a part of his history, in a professional context.

For reference, look up to the Wikipedia pages of other military officer, particularly field marshals - like K.M. Cariappa, Sarath Fonseka, Ayub Khan, etc...This is a public webpage, and both his ranks and decorations are public attations to his prowess as a military officer. Do not make edits just because you like to.

Yours sincerely. Silver Pavilion (talk) 13:54, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Discretionary sanctions alert

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Disruptive editing

edit

Don't call vandalism a "vandalism". You are violating WP:NPA.

You need to stop edit warring at J. Sai Deepak. Whitewashing will not work. Abhishek0831996 (talk) 09:54, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

February 2024

edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on J. Sai Deepak. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 09:14, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi, it was not my intention to engage in edit warring, but the constant vandalism by the user @Abhishek0831996 forced me to do so. I have asked for a third opinion at Wikipedia:Third opinion, but haven't received one yet. Matarisvan (talk) 09:57, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

This comment is a little concerning. As you stated you do not wish to discuss with me I would instead suggest you take it up at ANI if you feel I am out of line. Hi Matarisvan, thanks for participating in the WikiCup. You recently submitted Wikipedia:Peer review/Fountain Fire/archive1 for PR points in the WikiCup, but you do not seem to have conducted your review yet. As per Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring#Peer reviews, you may claim points when your review is finished. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

edit

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to   Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Hi, I had made some grammatical edits but there was an edit conflict as someone had made changes to the article before I could publish. I copied my text and put it into the text box, but because I was editing on a mobile device, only a few lines of my text got copied. I hit publish before reviewing as I thought all the text had been pasted, but the mobile clipboard could hold only a few lines. I will be sure to not try to resolve edit conflicts on mobile devices from now on, thank you. Matarisvan (talk) 18:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

The second round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 28 April. This round was particularly competitive: each of the 32 contestants who advanced to Round 3 scored at least 141 points. This is the highest number of points required to advance to Round 3 since 2014.

The following scorers in Round 2 all scored more than 500 points:

The full scores for Round 2 can be seen here. FAC

edit

Hi. I understand your frustration with the WP:FAC process, but I don't think saying your reviewers have acted in bad faith is a productive way forward. RoySmith (talk) 14:28, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I don't have any frustrations with the FAC process, nor with all reviewers, just the particular one, who has gone to great lengths to derail my nominations for that article. Matarisvan (talk) 14:42, 2 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Dude stop digging your hole deeper. Who on Earth do you think will be interested in reviewing any of your FACs if instead of pointing out possible mistakes in the reviews you start flinging accusations of racism and personal animosity? Your best course of action would be to apologise to SchroCat and mean it. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 03:05, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you had read my comments fully then you would know I focused more on pointing out mistakes in the review than these so called accusations. That reviewer did not address any of my points, just bemoaned their actual modus operandi being revealed, which is what they did at the last two peer reviews and FACs. Anyways, I will not put up any of my work for FA or FL candidacy until the coordinators are from this cabal. Matarisvan (talk) 03:55, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't matter if your personal attack was posted with ten other points or if it was there as is. It's still a personal attack. This is not Instagram or YouTube, it is in your best interest to stop arguing. Wilhelm Tell DCCXLVI (talk to me!/my edits) 07:38, 3 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

USS Texas (BB-35) A-Class reappraisal

edit

I did not add your name to be notified in the discussion of this topic on the coordinator talk page for you to become involved (which you haven't). My purpose was to show you one of the few requests or problems that come up in one form or another that are not well understood - by me after a year as a coordinator and I think by most people as well. The handling of most coordinator tasks that come up can be found in various project review and procedure pages or academy pages. Experienced coordinators often can answer some other questions. I am still not sure where this type of A-class reassessment is covered in enough detail so that anyone who does not have experience in handling it can feel comfortable about setting up or proceeding with one.

You can see by the discussion on this topic that this type of reassessment can be puzzling. I usually try to stay away from A class reassessments. They don't seem to come up very often but it seems that only a few people understand how to handle this since it is not under the general Wikipedia wide processes in the same way that featured article/list and GA reviews and reassessments are handled. It is complicated by the fact that the military history project has retained project control on A-class assessments, which after 3 general reviews, a source review and an image review, must be approved by an uninvolved coordinator. (Experienced users or coordinators usually handle the various reviews.) In turn, that puts the reassessments back into the project for ultimate processing. Even now, I am not quite sure how the A-class reassessments are to be set up and finally reviewed or decided. It may be similar to GA reassessments but require more comment and ultimate decision by an uninvolved coordinator.

I add this here only as information since I know it is not providing much enlightenment. As I have time, I will try to get a handle on this and let you know if I can say anything more definite. If you need to know any more at this time, Hawkeye7 definitely understands this and maybe a few others, including Hog Farm, do as well. My advice would be to just wait and see how this one is handled for any further explanation.

Congratulations on becoming a coordinator. Donner60 (talk) 05:28, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much @Donner60, and many congratulations on your reelection. I'm thinking of rewriting the article underlying this reassessment myself. I'll post on the review page if I'll be doing it. Looking forward to the work to be done this season and many more upcoming ones. Cheers Matarisvan (talk) 05:35, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I set up the A-class reassessment. There is a procedure I documented. There's some tricky bits, but it is fairly mechanical. I may get the bot to do it in the future; I have to check to see whether the Page Mover bit is required. The handling of A-class goes back before I joined the project. See Wikipedia talk:Content assessment/Archive 5 for the history. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 09:51, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Matarisvan: As information, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/USS Texas (BB-35). It shows up on Military history WikiProject, Articles for review list as an A-class review, not separately as a reassessment. I note that Hawkeye7 set the reassessment up for voorts. He copied the points that voorts raised. Then he said he did not agree with one of the points made with the reason. I don't agree with it either. So it now seems clear to me that a coordinator sets up the A-class reassessment for the user who requests it with the rationale provided by that user. WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

edit

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is   AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion,   BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place,   Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are:   Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points,   Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points,   BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points,   Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and   AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

Hey, @Matarisvan, do you have the time to also comment on my FA nominee? Amir Ghandi (talk) 10:03, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Amir Ghandi, I will not be able to, I can't find the time since I'm working on your GA nom, 1 GA rewrite and 1 FA rewrite. Do let me know when you have other FA noms, because once these are done I'll have more time. Matarisvan (talk) 13:45, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for answering me. Amir Ghandi (talk) 16:22, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
