Are you running a bot?
editYou seem to be running a bot. Is that so? Has it been approved? Paul August ☎ 16:48, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Paul August: Hi. I'm not running a bot, I'm editing through AutoWikiBrowser. I just saw your recent reverts, and while I understand this one, and I apologize for the mistake I made, I'm not quite sure why you reverted this. I used WP:NAMEDREFS to avoid reference duplication, along with some other minor changes. --Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 16:55, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- OK.
But, as you seem to have made the same mistake at Seven against Thebes (see above) I am asking you to please try to be more careful! Not everyone is in favor of "named references", and before you change the referencing style on an article it's a good idea to gain consensus for such a change on the article's talk page. Paul August ☎ 17:04, 6 January 2024 (UTC)- I like named references, but they aren't very helpful when they are named "01" or "02". Not sure if there's a rule, but I always like to give them a name that hints at which reference it is, so as to help future editors. Thanks, Mr.choppers | ✎ 14:36, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Mr.choppers: Hi. I didn't create those names, I just added those same names in the other instances in which those same sources were used. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 14:39, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't catch that. Sometimes I give references new names to suit my fancy, but I wouldn't say that's expected and it might even meet with opposition. Best, Mr.choppers | ✎ 03:25, 14 January 2024 (UTC)

Tagging new articles
editHi there, Mazewaxie. Thank you for your interest in Emily Spörck. I would suggest, however, that in future you wait a bit longer than two minutes before tagging new articles. It can take me up to 15 minutes to ensure my articles are not orphans. I see that in this case it took me seven minutes. Happy editing and all the best for 2024.--Ipigott (talk) 12:28, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

- I've seen many such edits in my watchlist over the past days. Feels like they violate WP:AWBRULES #4? IceWelder [✉] 11:33, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- @AllTheUsernamesAreInUse and IceWelder: Hi. I apologize if I used the tool improperly, I legitimately thought it was recommended to use "{{disambiguation}}" instead of "{{disambig}}" since AWB suggested that. I'll be more careful from now on and thank you for pointing that out, I'm trying to make the best out of AWB, but sometimes I mess up since I'm making many edits. --Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 12:19, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- Also, orphan tags are not applicable to disambiguation pages (or set indexes and name pages for that matter), so this edit would be erroneous as well. AllTheUsernamesAreInUse (talk) 22:12, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Citing Wikipedia
editRather than naming the reference as you did here it would have been more useful to remove the usage of Wikipedia as a source, add {{citation needed}}, and tell the editor who added them to stop using Wikipedia as a source. I've done so. PamD 18:18, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion
editHi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to Billboard Global 200.
If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref>
and one or more <ref name="foo"/>
referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref>
but left the <ref name="foo"/>
, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/>
with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>
; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.
If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks! Cosmetic edits
editHi! Could you avoid edits like this one that are solely cosmetic? Thanks! {{u|Sdkb}} talk 17:04, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- There are quite a lot of these [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6].
- @Mazewaxie: WP:AWB has checkboxes to skip "Only cosmetic changes" and "Only minor genfixes". Please check them. Mass-producing these edits is explicitly against Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser#Rules of use. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 18:07, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Sdkb and Tom.Reding: Hi. I'm using a custom module on AWB, so I will try to work on it and avoid cosmetic only changes. --Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 18:10, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- If you are using a custom module to apply your own version of WP:GENFIXES, then you should not be summarizing those edits as "WP:GENFIXES". ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 18:16, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- I use a custom AWB module that derives from the general fixes one, so I thought that could be an appropriate edit summary. I apologize for that. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 20:57, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

DAB tagged as stub
editHi there! I see that you're using AWB on a bunch of disambiguation entries such as N84. Is there a setting whereby you can direct AWB not to assign the {{stub}} tag to disambig entries? I ran across half a dozen today and hope it doesn't persist... thanks. Her Pegship (?) 23:38, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Pegship: I've reverted a few too. There is an open AWB bug report for this issue. In the meantime, Mazewaxie can be more careful before pressing the "Save" button, or set up AWB to skip articles with {{Letter-NumberCombDisambig}} instead. GoingBatty (talk) 21:25, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. I know I would have double checked my edits and reverted those myself. I would like to avoid those type of mistakes, so if you know how to automatically skip disambiguation pages on AWB it would really help. I tried creating a custom module, but I couldn't find a way to skip disambiguation pages. By the way I'm being more careful, but I still make mistakes here and there. I apologize. Formatting of citations with authorities at the end of the title
editHi, when you correctly remove the small tags in the title of a citation, as here, the citation becomes poorly formatted because the required "." in the author abbreviation "Miq." is removed by the citation template. There are various solutions; the simplest is to input the author abbreviation with ".." at the end, as I've done. Peter coxhead (talk) 10:46, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

editHello, I just made my first edit, flagging this page for deletion as advertisement. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Solo_Launcher&oldid=1209463215 Would you check my work to see if I made any errors? I tried to follow the guide, but I am not confident. I ask you because it seems you are active and have made edits to the page before. Thank you! Bilstin (talk) 01:48, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to join New pages patrol
editHello Mazewaxie!
- The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Sister project redirects like this do not need any stub tags. They are complete as they are... Unless you want to write up an actual article. :) - UtherSRG (talk) 11:59, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- You are continuing to do this same thing on other sister-link redirect. Please stop! - UtherSRG (talk) 18:21, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

Isbn
edit@ping:Mazewaxie. Your changes to the isbn parameter for the Australian Road Atlas are resulting in a checksum error. I have checked that the isbn is correct as per the atlas, so cannot suggest the reason. I suggest that you refrain from all such changes until the problem can be resolved. Also it is good practice to preview the result of changes to references before saving. Cheers Downsize43 (talk) 00:38, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
Can you please review https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endangered_Species_Act_of_1973 and compare it to this 14:04, 4 August 2023 just to make sure things are correct and if not fix it if necessary. But maybe you keep the current infomation if they make sense.Song4Life (talk) 19:02, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
Dash fixes in GENFIXES
editHey, just a heads up: for GENFIXES edits that add endashes to page ranges (particularly complex ones), it's worth a manual check of online sources to verify the page numbering. Government documents in particular have a weird habit of using hyphens for single pages. In this source from this edit, for example, 12.1-5
is the number for a single page. I've fixed it with a hardcoded {{hyphen}}, but I wanted to make you aware for the future since you're a prolific editor. Best, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:16, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- You continue to make this error - see here. Please be more careful. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 03:05, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'm trying to be more careful with it, I hope to not repeat the same mistake. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 21:30, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
Standard practices question
editI note your expertise and ask your advice. While reading https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coenzyme_A I clicked the first link in the article expecting to go to information about coenzyme but landed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cofactor_(biochemistry) instead. A second click from cofactor took me to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzyme#Coenzymes. I think I will leave the page as is because I lack any subject matter expertise.
What do you think? Is there a document or forum you recommend I read about Wikipedia etiquette?
Thanks for your time! Mickleby (talk) 17:06, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

edit{{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
. UtherSRG (talk) 22:32, 15 March 2024 (UTC)- I've blocked you regarding your continued addition of stub tags to the sister project redirects. I've called you out on this twice, and others have undone your edits as well. Please stop! - UtherSRG (talk) 22:33, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- I believe you are also using a modified GENFIXES and as someone else above has asked you to modify your edit summary to something more appropriate since you are not using the actual GENFIXES. Others have also called you out for lack of appropriate edit summaries. - UtherSRG (talk) 22:37, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Blocked? Really? Yes, I was warned, but it happened on February 23 and March 12, it was accidental and I was going to revert it myself as I double-check my semi-automated edits more often that not. Honestly, I don't think it's fair to block me. I'm just trying to help, and I didn't make those edits with a disruptive intent, but when you make hundreds of edits per day like I do, mistakes happen.
- Also, no. I'm using the base GENFIXES. I used a modified version in the past but since I encountered more issues I went back to the default one.
- I hope you understand that there is absolutely no malicious intent in my mistakes. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 22:39, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter if there is malicious intent. What matters is the effect. I've asked you twice to not do this, and you never replied. You need to slow down if you are making these kinds of errors. Others have called you out on your edit summaries, as I said, which is reasonably lumped in here. Take the next 31 hours to take a breather and figure out how you will do better. - UtherSRG (talk) 22:45, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- I replied to you, on your talk page, on February 3, 2024, and I apologized for it. AWB doesn't automatically detect those, and I try to be as careful as I can. I reverted some myself. I want to improve Wikipedia, I usually start editing at night after a day of work (I live in Italy), I can make mistakes. I take being blocked as a huge blow honestly, I don't think I deserve that. Also, why exactly 31 hours? I had time on the weekend to spend on Wikipedia, and now I can't edit anymore. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 22:54, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- 31 hours is the default starting point for disruptive editing. This is not just about the stub edits. It's also for all of the other folks who have asked you to change your behavior; to watch what you are doing, to make better edit summaries. If this is a huge blow for you, then you are understanding the significance. - UtherSRG (talk) 01:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- There is absolutely nothing wrong with my edit summaries, default GENFIXES is all that I am applying. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 10:47, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

Article spelling/format
editI would ask you to stop forcing 'Oxford spelling' onto articles that you're editing, often with associated changes to the spelling within the articles themselves. Changing the format or style within an article goes contrary to WP:RETAIN and is specifically deprecated editing, without an argument based on WP:TIES achieved through discussion and consensus. Looking at some of your recent edits, in amongst the many auto-generated ones is a stream of changes that meet the deprecated activity described in the Manual of Style as "enforcing optional style in a bot-like fashion without prior consensus", and this needs to stop, please. Thank you in anticipation MapReader (talk) 09:49, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. I apologize for that. May ask you a question? If let's say I encounter an article written in American English and has the date format "DMY", could I change either one of two for consistency? Or is it against the manual? Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 10:43, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- No, you can’t. Date format and spelling/style format aren’t necessarily linked, even though the US is pretty much the only country using MDY. Leave the style and date format of articles alone, unless there is reason to change them per TIES or RETAIN. MapReader (talk) 16:09, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ok. To clarify more, can I add date format and spelling/style format to articles that don't have it to uniformize the article? Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 16:48, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Only if that reflects the existing state of the article. Adding tags for American or British English or DMY or MDY to articles that are already in that format is fine, per RETAIN. What isn’t OK is for you to arbitrarily change the format to Oxford spelling - as you have done multiple times without any explanation, at the same time forcing Oxford spelling edits into the article. Who do you think you are deciding that all these articles need to be in Oxford spelling? It’s a minority spelling package, rarely used in both the US and UK, and doesn’t merit widespread use in WP. MapReader (talk) 18:41, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ok it's all clear now. By the way I don't think it's necessary to say "Who do you think you are". I didn't mean to make those changes in a provocative way. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 19:27, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Trivial edits
editHi! Please don't make edits like this one, which made no difference to the displayed text of the article – they clutter up watchlists and do nothing to improve the encyclopaedia. In particular, please don't do so using AWB – these edits are specifically disallowed under Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser#Rules of use #4, Do not make insignificant or inconsequential edits. You should be aware that a number of editors have found themselves unable to edit after persistently making edits of this kind. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:26, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- Correction: your edit did include one small useful change, my apologies; it's all the other pointless changes that you'd do well to drop. Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:29, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
- November 1st is an unacceptable date format per MOS:BADDATE, so my edit that included November 1st → November 1 is perfectly fine, there was absolutely no reason to revert it. Also, I am using AWB with the "skip if only minor genfixes" option activated, so I only make changes that DO make a difference to the displayed text of the article. Genfixes and page numbers
editEdits like this are incorrect, as a single page is quoted, not a range, as can be seen if you follow the link and look at the page cited [7]. There is certainly no excuse for you to repeat this error once it has been reverted with an edit summary explaining it. editHello,
I am concerned that you have nominated so many redirects for deletion in such a short time, and I'm not sure you're wholly familiar with the criteria for keeping and deleting redirects pbp 16:15, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. Why do you think that I'm not familiar with the criteria? I genuinely think that my nominations are appropriate. Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 20:33, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- "No page links here" isn't sufficient rationale for deletion of a redirect so IDK why you keep bringing it up. You also used the same deletion rationale over and over again pbp 21:03, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
- I used the same rationale because I thought it would be enough, since they all were similar cases. By the way I don't get your "keep" opinion on "LeOld LeBald Le4and6". That's got to be one of the most random redirects ever created lmao Mazewaxie (talk • contribs) 21:08, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Celtic
editYou are experienced enough an editor to know that when an edit is questioned and reverted, you don't just revert it a second time and attempt to communicate your thoughts in edit summaries. Please take the discussion to the talk page. Your edit is misplaced because it talks about Celtic's stay in the top league before mentioning them starting in it. There is also a list of Celtic's achievements later in the lead, some of them more notable than this. If they can wait until the second paragraph, I'm sure this can too. Escape Orbit (Talk) 06:34, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

- Didn't know that Messi won in 2024 and Benzema in 2023. My apologies, thank you. Guyrichtheman (talk) 13:46, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
Help
editHello, Mazewaxie!
I noticed that you've made some edits to the English Wiki page of Lionel Messi. I saw that the main image (Lionel-Messi-Argentina-2022-FIFA-World-Cup (cropped).jpg) has a very low resolution. So, I upscaled the image and posted it on Wiki Commons as File: (Lionel-Messi-Argentina-2022-FIFA-World-Cup sharpness.jpg). Several pages in other languages have already accepted the new upscaled image, and I believe it would be great to update the English Wiki page as well. Could you please make this change quickly?
Thank you for your attention.
Best regards,
