User talk:Opera hat/Archive 4
Hello Opera hat. Just to say that I have added a comment on the Talk page of Eton College in relation to a recent edit by you. Best wishes, 45ossington (talk) 16:33, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
Sir 'Andrews' Windsor
editDear Opera hat, I have added a lengthy comment to the Talk page of Andrews Windsor, 1st Baron Windsor in relation to your move of this page. I think possibly the form 'Andrews' originates with a misprint in Dugdale's Barony (1675), with everyone copying him, and that the original form ought to be 'Andrew'. If you have evidence that I am wrong, would you be so kind as to post it there? Otherwise I think it ought to return to the original place. Many thanks, Eebahgum (talk) 10:24, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thankyou for replying. In the light of what you say it would probably be best to restore the page to its original title, and keep this one as a Redirect. Do you have any idea how to do that so as to preserve the edit and page talk history? It's rather beyond my skills. Would you be willing to do it? I would then clean up the article, wikify a bit and put those children in readable order, add a note about the name, and maybe develop the actual subject slightly. As you wish. Cheers, Eebahgum (talk) 13:47, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for your work on this. Opera hat (talk) 13:50, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

List of British Army full generals
editDo you think that it would be worth splitting off the Indian generals, currently in List of British Army full generals, into their own list? Greenshed (talk) 03:59, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
- Not really. I think there is too much overlap to make the distinction very meaningful. Opera hat (talk) 14:36, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Greenshed (talk) 06:17, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice on use of Template:Sortname when adding names to a sortable table. I was helping someone else out, but coding that may be a step too far. Shipsview (talk) 16:15, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- I know, I've often found that all the template stuff can be a deterrent to editing. The sortname one isn't too bad, though. Opera hat (talk) 23:40, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Category discussion closure
editGood morning, I'm just checking if you wish to follow up on this CfD discussion. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:57, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
- In principle, yes. I just haven't got round to doing anything about it yet. Opera hat (talk) 22:56, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Talkback
editMessage added 23:16, 30 April 2017 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
The article James Henry Robinson Bond has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- I have done as thorough a search as I can, but I cannot locate sources to indicate that this subject passes WP:GNG or WP:SOLDIER. Although Who Was Who vol IV is mentioned as a source, it is long-established that Who's Who volumes are typically not considered WP:RS for the purposes of proving notability. Other than that, I can only trace him in primary source mentions (for example in lists of military personnel or routine retirement and death notices), which WP:SOLDIER establishes is not sufficient to establish notability. There are no secondary sources published about him, or even mentioning him, that I have found.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 15:27, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

- I created the article nearly ten years ago, and I wouldn't have done it now. If the man is notable enough for an article, then more articles should link to him. Opera hat (talk) 08:32, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Ceremonial Day Coats (Royal Navy)
editHi there; was just wondering if I could clarify a few things as regards the gold shoulder boards used by members of the royal family of the rank of Captain and Commanders (like the Prince of Wales and Duke of York) in this order of dress.
As far as I am aware, the insignia used are:
- Commodore:Crown, crossed baton & sword and one star.
- Captain: Crown, one star and a foul anchor.
- Commander: a foul anchor.
Is there re. anything 'official' that allows the wear of this order of dress by royals of this rank? As according to current dress regs, CDCs are only worn by (and I quote): "members of the Royal Family attaining flag rank, First Sea Lord, Admirals of the Fleet, full Admirals and the defence services secretary when a Naval Officer."
Many thanks,
JWULTRABLIZZARD (talk) 15:25, 28 June 2017 (UTC)
- Going by your recent post at Talk:Royal Navy officer rank insignia, it sounds like you know more about it than I do. Opera hat (talk) 08:51, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Governors of Fort William
editMany moons ago, I began collecting names in my sandbox of Governors of Fort William with the intention of visiting the Fort William Museum to complete the task. This has not happened, but today I noticed that you have written a list. I have found additional names to your list, and hope that you might review my findings to see if these might fill gaps - if there are any - in your list. Thank you. Shipsview (talk) 09:25, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
- That list should be complete after the 1750s, as I think I checked it against the Army Lists on the National Archives website. Please charge ahead and add names of earlier Governors. Your sandbox doesn't give any sources, though. Opera hat (talk) 20:24, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Rfc notice
editAn Rfc is opened at Charles, Prince of Wales concerning the article's lead. You may want to place that article on your watchlist :) GoodDay (talk) 17:24, 21 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks; I'm aware :) Opera hat (talk) 17:58, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

post-nominal's
editHey, to further on with the 'CD' post-nominals, the Canadian Forces Decoration handbook by the Canadian Defence Force lists the 'CD' following all other commonwealth awards - [1] - I hope this helps. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 09:32, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Opera hat The 'GCL' is used in numerous countries and is also citated in the reference above ^ and among the references currently sitting next to Princess Annes post-nominals. Nford24 (PE121 Personnel Request Form) 12:25, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
- That same source describes the Princess Royal as LG and LT, which is wrong, so I don't think it can be regarded as authoritative in this matter. Opera hat (talk) 12:39, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
