why revert my edits?
edityou have reverted couple of my edits in India page 1) I have removed the line regarding the word "Aryan" in the history section. There is an ongoing discussion and the new editor has been edit warring to include those 2) I have removed the mention to Bose and the revolutionary movement from the lead as undue. those were added by nuclear warfare in the article and the lead. i have removed it only from the lead as undue as equal weightage can not be given to both.
I am reverting you per BRD. Please initiate a discussion in the talk page, if you disagree with me (or as in the first case, join the existing discussion)--Sodabottle (talk) 08:49, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- I am extremely sorry about it, I mistakenly pressed the rollback in my watchlist, but then stopped the edit by pressed Stop on the browser. I checked my contributions, to check if it had happened or not. My contributions did not show the entry, so I assumed it did not happen. --Redtigerxyz Talk 08:53, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thats ok. It has happened to me a couple of times too :-)--Sodabottle (talk) 08:55, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

- I have performed a couple of minor copy-edits to the article. Pursuant to these and your edits, the article looks nearly set for a pass. If you could now clear up the bit about the patronymic (I have provided an explanation on the review page), I can go ahead and perform the final assessment. - In many articles relating to Hinduism, Mahabharata etc., Ganga is linked as Ganga the river goddess, rather than just Ganga a geographic river so it is necessary to prominently link that, instead of just a hidden link in the lead. --Redtigerxyz Talk 03:43, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, i just would like you to have a look at the article Criticism of Hinduism during your spare time. A user User:Critic007 (surely a WP:SPA) is coming down heavily with some biased views. What especially irritates me is that the user tries to project the eroticism that exist in the idols/imagery as "sexually immoral". Personally, as a person who feels that eroticism is a product of time and society that entertains a high level of freedom in art; the user's effort really annoys me. I am not regular to Wikipedia these days and would like you to have a look at the article and keep the article and the user under your watch. Thank you . Arjuncodename024 15:02, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Russian reference
editThanks for reviewing Yuri Kozyrev for DYK. I saw your comment about the Russian reference. If you really have doubts and want to check Russian (or other foreign language) references in future, why not use Google Language Tools which allow you either to translate the full web page by inserting the URL or just the text you want by copying and pasting it into the box provided. I know most people are not happy with computer tranlsations but I think you'll find the Russian-English is at least good enough to check references. - Ipigott (talk) 08:52, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

editHi, Redtiger! The old man remembers you. Happy new year, though belated. I have been closely reading your excellent articles on Hinduism related subjects and your recent one got as many 17,000 hits. It is quite some time time since we collaborated on a Hinduism article. I have started one on two prenatal samskaras and two others which are more of social functions here User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Miscel.. You may like to join me to expand this. If you are willing, then I will move it to separate page from where it could be transferred with full history of text additions made by each author. Can you also think some subject related to the Republic Day on which we can write.--Nvvchar. 10:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. happy new year to too. I think you have a pretty good job on the article and it is already ready for mainspace. I can contribute to it after it is moved there. You should merge it in Simantonayana (5x expansion for DYK), which already exists, instead of a new article. - Can we not introduce Pumsavana Simantonayana is it is the present practice with two other related social events?--Nvvchar. 16:22, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have introduced {{Main}} for both Pumsavana and Simantonnayana in the particular sections and also included the title in the template. I have made some changes in the lead to match with this. If you feel that it will not pass muster in DYK, I will not post it. --Nvvchar. 09:41, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is I could find any proof for the term "Pumsavana Simantonayana", which can be termed as WP:OR. What I suggest is merge the relevant content into three articles: Valaikaapu, Simantonnayana and Pumsavana. Nominate them for 5x. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:32, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors
editHi! I noticed your activity as a Good Article reviewer, and wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.
If you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!
You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).
I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:51, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

- Correction. It used as an external link, not reference. For an English wikipedia (intended for a reader who may not know Marathi), a Marathi external link is not neccessary. A Marathi (read non-English) reference can be used, but it should be a high-quality reference fulfilling WP:RS criterion. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:04, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

- Read carefully: "Outside of citations,[4] external links to English-language content are strongly preferred in the English-language Wikipedia. It may be appropriate to have a link to a non-English-language site, such as when an official site is unavailable in English; or when the link is to the subject's text in its original language; or when the site contains visual aids such as maps, diagrams, or tables—per the guideline on non-English-language sites."--Redtigerxyz Talk 14:45, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Khandoba doesn't have an official site as far as I know, wonder what subject's text means though. All in all, English is preferred but non-English sources are not banned, there has to be a good reason for them to be used. Yogesh Khandke (talk) 02:55, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Tara (Ramayana) (section)
editI'm currently copy editing the article. Could you please revise the following sentence: "She blames Rama for unjustly killing Rama and tells that even Vali could have helped him recover Sita." in the section 'Tara's lamentation'. It doesn't seem to make sense and I cant figure how to re-work it. Best Wishes Pol430 talk to me 15:27, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the copyedit. Now about the sentence. 1. Rama kills Vali by shooting an arrow from behind his back, which is regarded as an unjust way of killing a combatant. This action is condemned by Tara. 2. Rama kills Vali to secure the help of Sugriva in the quest of Sita. Tara argues that instead of killing Vali by unjust means and Rama could have forged an alliance with Vali, who could have helped him recover Sita.--Redtigerxyz Talk 15:38, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Tara argues that instead of killing Vali by unjust means and Rama could have forged an alliance with Vali, who could have helped him recover Sita.--Redtigerxyz Talk 15:38, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Ardhanarishvara
editOn 14 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Ardhanarishvara, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Hindu deity Ardhanarishvara (pictured) is depicted with the right half as male, sometimes with an erect penis, and the left half as female with a well-developed breast? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
Thank you for your help Victuallers (talk) 06:02, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your good faith edits to Ignace Bourget (moving the references to under the notes), but there is no policy consensus for standardising to either ordering and, in the absence of other problems with note-section formatting, articles should not be tinkered with to switch from one correct format to another correct format. I appreciate the intention of improving the article, though - thanks for that. - DustFormsWords (talk) 00:26, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- See convention formed in wikipedia (as well as most books and journals) in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (layout) (a GA criterion) and WP:CITE. The notes section is always before the References. I have never seen a journal or book where it is vice versa. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:11, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- Quote from Manual of Style (layout): "There is no consensus establishing a particular structure when footnotes and the works cited in those footnotes are placed in separate sections." I see nothing wrong with your proposed format, merely that it does not yet enjoy community consensus or policy backing, and that in general on Wikipedia editors are asked not to switch from one correct style choice to another correct style choice merely to satisfy their personal preference. - DustFormsWords (talk) 23:14, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive a week away
editWikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of March. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 50. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. On behalf of my co-coordinator Wizardman, we hope we can see you in March. MuZemike delivered by MuZebot 00:02, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Talk:Barbara Howard (artist)/GA1
editThanks for your comments regarding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Barbara_Howard_(artist)/GA1 . I am happy to try and make improvements to this article but would be grateful if you could be more specific in your recommendations:
1. Rewrite lead per WP:LEAD -- I have read the WP:LEAD suggestions and it is not clear to me how what I have written doesn't comply.
- The one sentence lead does not completely summarize the article. Compare with lead of GA Leonardo da Vinci.--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:45, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
2. All statistics like dates as well as quotes need references -- I have added a new reference to the opening paragraph but am not sure what other dates or quotes are not already covered.
- I have added tags.--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:45, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
3. The subjects of her Bibliography, her writing style, her painting style, critic of her style need to be discussed -- It seems to me that the titles in her Bibliography are self explanatory and her painting style is discussed. I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to improve these.
- Self explanatory titles is not enough. We need more detail.--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:45, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
4. Using meta:OTRS is the best way of authenticating the licenses of all images. "Wardsislander for the Estate of Barbara Howard" is not enough. An email from the Estate of Barbara Howard's official email id, should be sent to wikipedia to verify the veracity of the authorship -- Thanks for pointing this out. I have rectified this omission in an email to the appropriate department.
5. This article needs a lot of work to be at GA level. -- I don't wish to make a lot of extra work for you. Do you think that a peer review would be helpful?
Thanks again for your comments. I hope to be able to bring this article up to GA level in due course. Wardsislander (talk) 23:53, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- If you are unhappy with the assessment, go for the GA reassessment.--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:45, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarifications, Redtigerxyz. They were very helpful. I have rewritten the Lead and added missing citations and references throughout. Also expanded descriptions and comments about the art. Have a look when you have a moment and let me know if you think the article needs further improvement. Your GA nomination of Tara (Ramayana)
editThe article Tara (Ramayana) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Tara (Ramayana) for things which need to be addressed. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:29, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your participation in the March 2011 GAN backlog elimination drive
editOn behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, we would like to take the time and thank you for your contributions made as part of the March 2011 Good articles backlog elimination drive. Awards and barnstars will go out shortly for those who have reviewed a certain number of articles.
During the backlog drive, in the month of March 2011,
- 522 GA nominations were undertaken.
- 423 GA nominations passed.
- 72 GA nominations failed.
- 27 GA nominations were on hold.
We started the GA backlog elimination drive with 378 GA nominations remaining, with 291 that were not reviewed at all. By 2:00, April 1, 2011, the backlog was at 171 GA nominations, with 100 that were left unreviewed.
At the start of the drive, the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 101 days (Andrei Kirilenko (politician), at 20 November 2010, reviewed and passed 1 March 2011); at the end of the drive the oldest unreviewed GA nomination was 39 days (Gery Chico, at 24 February 2011, still yet to be reviewed as of this posting).
While we did not achieve the objective of getting the backlog of outstanding GA nominations down to below 50, we reduced the GA backlog by over half. The GA reviews also seemed to be of a higher quality and have consistently led, to say the least, to marginal improvements to those articles (although there were significant improvements to many, even on the some of the nominations that were failed).
If you would like to comment on the drive itself and maybe even make suggestions on how to improve the next one, please make a comment at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles/GAN backlog elimination drives/March 2011#Feedback. Another GA backlog elimination drive is being planned for later this year, tentatively for September or October 2011. Also, if you have any comments or remarks on how to improve the Good article process in general, Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles can always use some feedback at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Good articles.
Again, on behalf of User:Wizardman and myself, thank you for making the March 2011 GA backlog elimination drive a success.

List of Indian inventions and discoveries
editGreetings,
You might remember me as user:JSR from two years ago. I am posting as an IP because I forgot my password. It has been too long since I voluntarily retired due to work pressure.
Recently there has been an endless title debate on this article. A "South Asia" title was proposed and even though consensus was not reached a List of South Asian inventions and discoveries article was forcibly bought into existence, drawing universal condemnation from all quarters of Wikipedia, and attracting the attention of this retired Wikipedian.
I have since then intervened to conclusively discredit the flawed "South Asia" hypothesis. The arguments have been well received. But I am not sure on how to act on the excellent advice given here on how to rid Wikipedia of this copy/paste article. Things are harder for me in the capacity of an IP who does not wish to open a new account all over again. If someone else could follow it up then it would be of timely help.
My other request to you is to participate in the move process on the page. Choose what you will but do participate, for your participation will help bring the title dispute to an end.
Good wishes, regards, thanks in advance, and apologies for burdening you with new and uninvited exertions,

Gol Deval/Gol Deol
editAs your from Mumbai Im sure you have heard of the Gol Deval (Shiv) temple near Null Bazar. You may know, the legend says they brits wanted it removed from the centre of the road for road expansion just before King George's visit in 1911. However the locals protested, notwithstanding there were attempts to break the temple. However whenever the workers struck the structure a snake came out and killed the guy, hence the idea was abandoned. I cant seem to find any good refs about this or actual temple history - wondering if you can help? Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 07:16, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Best not to be an aggressive drive by ...
edit... on the Ganges page. Editors have been working on this page for over a month. Discussions have been going on for over a month. People show courtesy to each other and discuss things before significant edits. You blow in, make some random edits (often incorrect, such as changing "happenstance" to "happen-stance"), twist up the traffic, and then blow out again. What is the game plan?
