Disambiguation link notification for February 4
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited U.S. Route 80 in California, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Georgia (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

checkuser needed template
Hi Rschen7754, your edit to the request at ANI has me confused. Its purpose is to request checkuser at AN or ANI specifically (see the documentation). It was a checkuser that configured it that way.
— Berean Hunter (talk) 00:38, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Perhaps we need to adjust the workflow then, because it is resulting in ANI transclusions showing up on the template too. [1] --Rschen7754 00:42, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, I see what you mean. :) Maybe @Timotheus Canens: can tweak the template to prevent that. Cheers,
— Berean Hunter (talk) 00:49, 8 February 2014 (UTC)- Or possibly @Amalthea:. --Rschen7754 00:51, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

- Meh. Bot lists all pages in Category:Requests for checkuser. To the best of my knowledge, a template can't only categorize the page where it is transcluded directly, it needs either be wrapped in noinclude tags or get the page name as a parameter. I haven't done any LUA module coding though, it might be possible to do it there?
I can attempt to make the bot smarter, e.g. by testing whether one tagged page is transcluded by another; has a small chance of false negatives, but that's probably acceptable.
In the meantime I've reactivated the request and wrapped in noincludes as a workaround.
Amalthea 18:42, 8 February 2014 (UTC)- Huh, I didn't think of that. Maybe that's a better interim solution than removing it altogether... --Rschen7754 18:51, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
IP sock
I see that the IP whom you blocked earlier as an obvious sock of a blocked editor is continuing the same edits, but on the IP's talk page at User talk:173.52.211.59. This doesn't seem like appropriate use of a talk page while blocked. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:42, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

User:SeanKesser
Hello Rschen7754,
This is User:SeanKesser speaking from IP acount, you acidently blocked it under suspicion that I'm sock of Mangoeater1000. That's not right, you can check that mine IP (or similar, starting with 109...) actually reverted edits of Mangoeater1000's socks earlier. I created account SK yesterday because IP's are mosly under suspicion of other edits and it's easier to follow contributions.
Technically, this IP is "sock" of Sean Kesser, but don't consider it as misuse, I just want to inform you in short and make things more clearly. Greetings. --109.165.183.50 (talk) 00:40, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Bureaucracy
Hi,
Do you think its possible for me to follow up the case which make me being banned without single reason without that very hard Bureaucracy? Why not having something like a simple talk page to solve these kinds of things. would you please watch my talk page and help me to know why I got blocked in Wikipedia, and why I still topic banned here? I just want to see if there is any hope in here, Regards ,KhabarNegar Talk 16:41, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
- I've seen this, but it will take some time for me to look at. I'll try to get to it soon. --Rschen7754 05:43, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I've taken a quick look and I have a few observations. At its core, Wikipedia, and all Wikimedia projects are collaborative efforts, meaning that they are not just the efforts of one person, but that they are worked on by many people. To that end, there are certain policies that guide how each local community functions, and help us work with each other. It appears that back in June there were concerns raised by others about your willingness to follow these policies, and your ability to work with other people. Because of this, you were blocked, and as a condition for unblocking, you were placed under a topic ban, so that you could still edit in certain areas where concerns had not been expressed.
- However, this was several months ago. I think that if you demonstrated some familiarity with both our content and conduct policies, and made some significant contributions to articles without any problems, then you could have your topic ban lifted. None of us knows how to edit Wikipedia when we first arrive, and we all make mistakes along the way. Hope this helps. --Rschen7754 05:53, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Sockpuppet investigation on user SeanKesser
Hello Eschen7754, i saw you have previously blocked user:SeanKesser as a possible sockpupper of Mangoeater1000 but later unblocked him, however i suspect he is in fact a sockpuppet of User:HistorNE - his editing is too professional for a new user and resembles a banned user very much. The case is filed at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/HistorNE.GreyShark (dibra) 18:40, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Rudra john cena SPI
Hi Rschen7754. I think an unfortunate accident has occurred in the course of dealing with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Rudra john cena. Admin Anna Frodesiak had already determined that the Jim Cartar account was an attempt at a fresh start after the user had made several errors. Her statements on the matter can be seen at User talk:Rudra john cena/Archive 2#Rudra john cena/Jim Cartar and at User talk:Jim Cartar#Your future at Wikipedia. She had already indeffed the Rudra Jon Cena account, though your addtional indef of it does no harm, but please could you review your block of the Jim Cartar account? Although he has been very clumsy and sometimes untruthful, Jim/Rudra appears to take advice seriously, and I think this was a genuine accident. Regards, --Stfg (talk) 10:53, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks much for acceding to that request. I've restored the Jim Cartar userpage to the state before you tagged it (but left the Rudra john cena page tagged). Regards, --Stfg (talk) 16:20, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for supporting me. Rudra john cena page is not needed to be restored as because I'm not going to use that account ever again. Thanks for quick actions. Regards. Jim Cartar (talk) 16:41, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Systematic disruptive editing by HistorNE on global wikipedia
Hello Rschen, I would like to bring to your attention that user:HistorNE, whose suspected puppets are currently under investigation, has currently begun a systematic campaign of disruptive editing on multiple interwiki pages - wikidata, Es, Pt, Mk etc. (he is so far blocked only on English wikipedia). I would love your opinion at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/HistorNE on this problematic case - perhaps the block needs to be installed on wikidata and other languages as well. Thanks.GreyShark (dibra) 22:15, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Request for enwiki EFM by a sysop on another wiki
See Wikipedia talk:Edit filter#Request for permission: User:Jimmy xu wrk. This request caught my eye since it was posted at WP:AN/RFC as overdue for a response. This user is a sysop on the Chinese Wikipedia, but not here. He says he would only view but not change filters. I'd be inclined to grant this, but wanted to ask a regular edit filter user first. This link shows he is a sysop and checkuser on zhwiki. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 04:55, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

- By way of clarification, the formal warning issued by Kevin Gorman was out of process and therefore has no effect. The provisions of WP:BLPBAN will be reviewed by the Arbitration Committee and where necessary updated.

I don't mind receiving AC notifications as I'm generally interested in the Committee's work, I was just a bit puzzled. Liz Read! Talk! 00:42, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

As far as the timing, the Committee was a bit slow voting, and then on our end a lot of clerks were recused, and then there were some additional delays on the clerk side of things so... it took a while, probably longer than it should have. --Rschen7754 00:46, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Long-term abuse / sockpuppetry
Hi Rschen, i would like to point out that the case of user:HistorNE was tagged as long-term abuse. However, despite the block of user:SeanKesser, the sockmaster has still continued disruption in English wikipedia using at least one one IP puppet - see Special:Contributions/109.60.14.112. More concerning is however the fact that HistorNE is actively engaging in disruptive editing on crosswikis such as wikidata, Spanish wiki and Portuguese wiki. You have mentioned that crosswiki issues have to be dealt with following checkuser investigation - i guess this is the time to ask for your further assistance.GreyShark (dibra) 16:26, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
- I reblocked the IP for a week. It does seem that he has not abused multiple accounts though on other wikis, which is what makes this a bit difficult, as this is basically POV pushing; also, he's not made a lot of edits at those wikis. @LlamaAl: how would something like this be handled on eswiki? --Rschen7754 16:46, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
- Incidents on other wikis should not be a reason to block a contributor, though they surely would be an aggravating factor in case the user behaves in a manner that does not comply with the project's policies. Thanks for the notice. LlamaAl (talk) 21:37, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

User:Starship9000 back?
His account was blocked for one year on 2 March 2013 and was subsequently was globally locked. Today, I came across this new user whose edits are worth keeping an eye on. It could be a coincidence, but the subject matter and general incompetence show a significant similarity to Starship9000, e.g. [96], [97]. It's also odd that this new editor was able to create an article on the same day he registered an account and after only one other edit. Voceditenore (talk) 19:23, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Sorry. I'm not there often so I do not keep track of who's a clerk, and perhaps I'm not sufficiently familiar with the etiquette. But perhaps your hatting should only have applied to the comments in place when you did hat, not subsequent comments. That's at any rate what I was intending to do. DGG ( talk ) 07:32, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- Well, first of all, you unhatted everything, including the most problematic comments. Secondly, the discussion was not particularly productive, even if it wasn't as bad as the original text which Callanecc hatted, and was continued sniping. On the arbitration pages, the responsibility of the clerks is to keep the process orderly. --Rschen7754 08:17, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
- The discussion was actually productive, and my comment brought out some statements which may help resolve matters--as it was intended to do. But it's true that this was not really the place for it, & I also apologize for that. The discussions on AfC are infuriatingly long and scattered, but I'll find a better place DGG ( talk ) 19:56, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

HistorNE's socks, again
Hi Rschen7754, again user:109.60.1.143 disrupted wikipedia articles, related with HistorNE's activity. The IP has been already blocked for 3 days for disruptive editing, but he should be marked and blocked for sockpuppetry. His last activity on March 20 was also in parallel to re-emergence of HistorNE on other interwikis (see [117]). Thanks.GreyShark (dibra) 19:14, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
- Seems like a dynamic IP, so not sure the block should be extended at this time. --Rschen7754 19:16, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
- And again today from user:109.60.5.116 (same IP range).GreyShark (dibra) 22:38, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks!
Thanks for the help with SweetBabyGirl06. --GentlemanGhost (converse) 21:29, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Looks like we kind of tripped over each other. I got Benziboi and Banjoboi. If you have an opinion on how to tag/link them, anything is fine by me, I usually just don't bother but will defer to you. --Floquenbeam (talk) 01:26, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- Someone else did a CU, and found one other account, but I assume no link to who the master is (since it's obvious it's a banned / blocked editor of some sort). Probably best to just leave it as is, for now. --Rschen7754 01:32, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for March 28
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Interstate 8, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page High line (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your GA nomination of U.S. Route 80 in California
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article U.S. Route 80 in California you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Secret -- Secret (talk) 14:51, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
Tone on arbitration
Are such curt, heavy-handed admonitions ("enough!") really necessary? Why not be more friendly and collaborative? I understand that you have authority over subjects to the Arbitration, but do you really have to be so domineering and intimidating in wielding it? I also am concerned with what I see as an intolerance for criticism of the Committee, which is deserved since, as a matter of fact, simply isn't living up to its obligations. Steeletrap (talk) 22:00, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- When parties to a case insist on sniping at each other despite several warnings, right in front of the Arbitration Committee, well, "friendly and collaborative" just won't cut it. As far as the delay, well, I wonder what is taking them so long too, and I think it's beyond reasonable. But that is not an excuse for parties to be attacking each other. --Rschen7754 00:01, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi Rschen, while you are certainly correct in the fact that PointsofNoReturn probably does not have enough experience to review GAs, if he is interested, you might want to direct him to WP:GARC. Your call. Have a nice day. Go Phightins! 02:45, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Augusto De Luca
You proposed to delete the user page of "Augusto De Luca" on lb-wiki. Yesterday Vituzzu tried to delete the article about "Augusto De Luca" on lb-wiki. In both cases the indicated reason was cross-wiki spam or abuse made by a hired promoter. We have a problem on lb-wiki with such deletions for two reasons: (i) if it would be really abuse, why are the articles about "Augusto De Luca" not nominated for deletion on the big wikis such as en-wiki, de-wiki, fr-wiki? (ii) If a hired promoter wrote an article, but all facts included therein are true and the article respect NPOV, where is the problem (apart that on his user page he should indicate that he was paid for that)? --Otets (talk) 09:48, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- The issue is that this account created those userpages on 500+ wikis, and was globlly locked for doing. Also, as far as ii, that is a violation of conflict of interest, and you really can't tell that the article is NPOV. This is a problem that has been encountered on several of the larger wikis. --Rschen7754 19:28, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- For each individual wiki no harm is done with a userpage. But I understand that, seen globally, a userpage on 500+ wikis is a kind of excess. I have however to repeat my question: If Ferdinando Castaldo is really a hired promoter, why in such case is the article about "Augusto De Luca" not nominated for deletion on the big wikis such as en-wiki, de-wiki, fr-wiki, why is this not even discussed on the talk page of that user? If you could provide us some proofs and show that each wiki is including a notice thereon on that user page, then we could think about following that example. The lb-wiki article about "Augusto De Luca" is definitely NPOV, as it contains just a list of books and a list of exhibitions, and no hailing lines at all. Hence, that article will remain, and so far doubt benefits to the accused. This being so, I want nevertheless to point out that when Ferdinando Castaldo inserted an Augusto De Luca photo into the article "Portrait", then we deleted such contribution immediately, even without any external recommendation. --Otets (talk) 08:27, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- "is definitely NPOV" - how do you know this? Have you done any outside research on the subject? Do they meet standards of notability? Are the sources reliable? Is there anything being omitted, like anything that would reflect unfavorably on the subject? And the articles on the big wikis are under examination, we can't do everything all at once. --Rschen7754 17:12, 27 March 2014 (UTC)
- My NPOV statement referred only to the "describe disputes, but not engage in them" part of that policy, sorry for not having made this clear earlier. Please let us know on the relevant talk page in case the big wikis would find out that in our article seriously contested assertions would be presented as facts, so that we could in that case react immediately. Following an internal discussion, lb-wiki accepts so far the status quo, no page is deleted, and the discussion is closed (your talk page will no longer be monitored, please leave a message at our articles for deletion page in case you would want to revive the discussion or any news on the subject would come up). --Otets (talk) 09:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Rschen, today you left a message at the Limburgish Wikipedia (li:) urging us to delete the user page of a certain Augusto Di Luca, that user being a cross wiki spammer. Can you please explain to me why this is so necessary? The user's spamming has been undone and no doubt he has been blocked. As far as I can see, his user page contains no obvious spam; neither can I detect anything else that's possibly disruptive or offensive. Steinbach (talk) 10:12, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- He created those userpages promoting his pictures on 500+ wikis, and they have been deleted where stewards can delete pages, and by many local admins. --Rschen7754 19:28, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Also see luxo:Ferdinando Castaldo, where another account has done the same thing. --Rschen7754 19:36, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Miller Henry
Thanks for the post-SPI block notice on User:Miller Henry, but there's nothing on User talk:Miller Henry alerting editors that he's a sock. Is this a change from past practice of putting block notices on talk pages? davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 17:54, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
- We don't always put a block notice on talk pages (it is now done by a script), but you are welcome to do so if you wish. --Rschen7754 19:17, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
Odd
What do you make of An helper of Nick (talk · contribs · logs)? Look at his first edit, after which he made a handful of article edits. Nick.mon (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) has abused multiple accounts in the past.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:28, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- Definitely meat, if not sock. But if both accounts push the same POV, for example, then the distinction is academic and we can just treat them as socks. --Rschen7754 22:47, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- He admitted to being meat. The problem is I don't know if the two agree with each other (the new account says he is there to fix things and appears to disagree, but that could be simply phony misleading). I also know nothing about the subject matter.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:55, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- No I haven't got multiple accounts. I had a discussion yesterday with him (as you can see here), who was not logged and he reverted some edits about colors, but finally we agree, and I asked him to create an account, because he is more expert than me in the politics of the Kingdom of Italy (as you can see here) because, with an account he could improve Wikipedia. He creates it, but I sincerely don't know why he named the account "An Helper of Nick", maybe simply because I asked an help in improve that pages, but I swear, that account is not mine. I made a mistake in the past, but now I did not do anymore that things. -- Nick.mon (talk) 7:04, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Language of Poland
Could you tell me why you use Russian in communication with Polish projects (here, here, here)? Poland is a member of the European Union, not the Commonwealth of Independent States. It was never a part of the Soviet Union as well. The most popular foreign langugage there is English. Russian is the fifth foreign langugage in order, learned by 6% of Poles only (source). In fact I should write this message in German or Italian, because the similar percentage of people is learning them in the USA... ;-) Best regards, Olaf (talk) 09:45, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

SockPuppet Investigation Immediately closed by an administrator when the accused requested him to close it- Need Immediate attention
Hi User:Rschen7754,
I had opened a sock puppet investigation on two users Shriram and Lihaas on India General election page- Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Shriram. One of them suddently made a request to another Administrator ( RequestMadeHere ) to close the investigation and the page was immediately closed.
Excerpt- User:JamesBWatson, I would think canvassing around for his view is turning disruptive. (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Shriram) How about a topic ban?Lihaas (talk) 14:44, 10 April 2014 (UTC)
The immediate closure of topic looks suspicious. Please do the necessary.
Thanks

Hi Rschen775,
The accused user Lihaas asked another Amdinistrator JamesBWatson to close the SockPuppet INvestigation and he immediately did that. This is supisicios. Please have a look. As the page Indian general election, 2014 is a high profile page in India now due to ongoing election, there is very high chance of paid editing in WIkipedia by political parties in a wide manner to make page look advantage for them. I would request your kind intervention in this case.
