Companies in Rochester metropolitan region

The list of companies is "way too long" because....well there are actually many companies that have operations in the Rochester metropolitan region. There are more companies, including LARGE companies that have operations here as compared to similar sized metros, such as Buffalo. This IS an Encyclopedia right....if you want, you can start another page linking the list of companies. Constellation Brands has revenue of OVER 5 BILLION DOLLARS for fiscal 2007 and is based in the ROCHESTER Metropolitan region in MONROE County. HOME PROPERTIES had 448 MILLION DOLLARS in Revenue for fiscal 2006. GATE HOUSE MEDIA also has near one half billion dollars in revenue. ESL Federal credit union has 3 BILLION DOLLARS in assets. It is clear that you have never read the Rochester Business Journal!!!!!! THESE MULTI-MILLION and BILLION dollar companies are based in Monroe County, with Home properties actually being based in the City of Rochester. There is no wikipedia page for the region....only the "Rochester Region" page. If you want to make a new page....go ahead...but stop complaining about information regarding the region being added to this page.

Remove Crazydog teeshirts and Finger lakes coffee roasters....although they are companies based in the region can be removed because they do not disclose revenues.

Port Huron hockey

I'm going to spend the day straightening out Port Huron hockey history. There were three separate franchises in the city, but their history is messed up among several articles. I will be expanding the following:

1. Port Huron Flags article for the original team from 1962 to 1981
2. Port Huron Border Cats / Port Huron Beacons I'm researching to see if the Border Cats folded outright, or became the Beacons... or if the Beacons are completely separate.
3. The second Port Huron Flags history merged into the current Port Huron Icehawks.

Local sports organization deleted

Simply put, because Wikipedia has standards of notability and verifiability for articles in general and athletics in particular. A Google search of "Lehigh Valley Roller Girls" returns a miniscule 47 unique hits, every single one of which is a Myspace page or a roller club website. I have only the press releases at the Elmira web-site. The most recent is at here. I believe it is simple co-operation, but McKenzie is a Sens draft choice. Minor leaguers and notability

I respectfully disagree. When an article subject is obviously not notable, a speedy is in order. The minor leaguers who had articles posted by User:Babyhawk were about players who had not had any time in the NHL, had received no notable awards from the AHL or any other minor league, and were not notable in any other fashion. Moreover, it looked to me like Babyhawk was simply copying material from Rockford's media guide — I even thought he might be the team's PR guy. But these article were pretty cut and dried in my opinion, and dragging them into PROD or AfD seemed meaningless. If it's a borderline call, I do go to PROD first, but these weren't, IMHO. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 19:15, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a note that they have all been restored. All the players meet WP:BIO standards in that they played in a fully professional league. Whether or not they played in the NHL or not doesn't matter as the standard only requires them to play in a league which is fully professional, which these players have. WHY WAS REVIEW OF COVELESKI STADIUM DELETED?

Ok, I understand adding a photo gallery to some players page may be crossing the line of advertising. I appologize and won't do that again. However, I don't understand why my ballpark reviews link was deleted...

Look at the links on the Coveleski Stadium for example. The links that you are allowing are small-parks.com, ballparkreviews.com, and littleballparks.com. Now I ask you this... what is the difference between those links and the ballpark reviews link that I posted?

For example Ballparkreviews.com is ran by a baseball fan (Brian Merzbach, who I have talked to quite a few times) who travels the US and takings photos and writes reviews of major and minor league ballparks. He is not affiliated with any "official" team or stadium or league. I am doing the EXACT same thing he is doing. I travel the US and take photos and write extensive reviews for fans to read about at each different ballpark, including physical architechural features of the stadium, seating layouts, game atmosphere, and so on. Also listed is factual information such as the architect, the year the ballparks were built, capacity, and the cost to build.

This is not a matter of posting spam. My website, david-mccann.com is nothing but a baseball website with accurate information, just go look at it. It is no different than any of the links you are allowing to keep. That's a question I've had on my mind for ages. It was always my understanding that diacritics would be completely hidden on the NHL team articles. Anyways, Djsasso & Krm500 could answer this, better then I. GoodDay (talk) 18:18, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

I'll post a few links for ya explaining what the situation is. Basically, it comes down to place-name translations. Names of cities should only be changed if there is a direct English traslation (ie: München becomes Munich). You can see in this discussion some reasoning. Also, there are at least five similarily named discussions on diacritics at the WT:HOCKEY archive. It is an over-ruling Wikipedia policy to have these in place names, as you can read about at WP:NCGN from which it states the following: "Please remember that many local names, like Paris or Berlin, are widely accepted in English. Frequently, English usage does include the local diacritics, as with Besançon. On the other hand, there are cases in which English widely uses the local name without adopting some non-English spelling convention or diacritic. In either case, follow English usage. When the diacritics are used in the article title, however, please create a redirect at the title without the diacritic, as not all Wikipedia users can readily type accented characters." Only player names in NHL-related articles are to have diacritics hidden, not geographical locations. – Nurmsook! ^talk... 19:49, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Nurmsook basically beat me to it, removing diacritics isn't a translation. Munich as mentioned is a translation and in such cases should be used. However, most lesser known towns do not have direct translations and as such go by their official name. Putting in diacritics breaks the sorting. Non-english characters are not supported. What Dj says is true, removing the diacritics is not a translation. However, we do have a cite for the place names without the diacritics, and that is in the roster page the Canucks put up. I do not know why the english wikipedia puts up with the insertion of non-english characters. Just because you can enter the characters on your keyboard, doesn't mean you are conveying how the character is pronounced, which is the point of the diacritics. I pronounce the o with dots as the regular o. I don't believe that the english editors go to the other wikipedias and stir this up. As for the rosters, I don't believe that we permit the city names with diacritics. None of the other rosters have the city names spelled that way. And we don't allow diacritics on player names, so why on the city name? So I believe the wp:hockey standard is not to use diacritics. That explains my comments in the editing summary. This has been argued many times. Wiki policy trumps project policy plain and simple. The nhl.com website uses incorrect spelling rules for the rules of city names and has such has been labeled as unreliable when it comes to spelling. Thirdly they are not non-english characters. This is a misconception that some people have, these characters are used in the english language, just not alot. All of the rosters had the city names with diacritics as this was most recently discussed when we first put into use the new roster templates, they were recently changed by accident and Nurmsock was reverting back to the original. -Djsasso (talk) 19:30, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

Did you ever use characters other than the 26 in an English class? No. They are not english characters, or they would be included in the curriculum of English grammar, spelling and literature. And obscure studies of 8th century don't count, because those were other languages, e.g. Anglo-Saxon, Frank, whatever. Your comment is bizarre on that point. Because of hearing things from certain editors along the lines of "I don't like them cause I have to hit a few more keys". And because alot of those sites just do a straight copy paste of media package info into their web design. So once it was spelled one way by one site it got spelled that way on all the sites. And I think my opinion is right for the same reason you think your opinion is right. Anyways this is my last comment on this on this talk page. If you want to discuss pick one location.
