Kennedy v. Bremerton

edit

I saw the edit related to adding a table of all relevant events. I want to caution you this is way beyond what we would include on a case article. Most of that timeline is given at the docket page at supremecourt.gov which is already linked to, and we avoid using Court filings as references (court decisions are different). We do try to summarize the major dates like when decisions at lower courts were handed down. --Masem (t) 16:04, 18 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh, alright. Thanks! Is there a place that that information could go without being excessive? Or is it simply not noteworthy?

I appreciate your reply to the continued attacks on the whole plagiarism on The Egg thing. Honestly I stumbled across that page a year ago and noticed the weird claims and I seem to have been paying for having put it on my watchlist ever since. It's nice to have someone else jump in and validate that I'm not being unreasonable here. Dylnuge (TalkEdits) 16:28, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely, yeah. The claim wasn't properly sourced, and it's very reasonable to point that out. Your actions have been very appropriate, and I think you made a series of right calls.

Hello TypistMonkey. I see you are a relatively new Wikipedia contributer. Familiarity with WP editorial policies and guidelines is a lifelong process for all of us. I wouldn't want you to feel that our (somewhat typically) robust article talk page exchange about the appropriate collocation of a speculation by Richard Wilhelm is in some way discouraging. Unfortunately, talk page discussions can tend to appear more confrontational than what might transpire in a broader face-to-face discussion. Kandi bracelet moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Kandi bracelet, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Gay icon

edit

Please don't add this category to random articles where it's not defining, it only belongs on articles like He-Man as a gay icon, Janet Jackson as a gay icon and Judy Garland as a gay icon or similar. ★Trekker (talk) 13:08, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I included it in all instances where there was a body claim that the individual was a gay icon. Are there similar instances where policy / precedent have been established?
TypistMonkey (talk) 21:48, 5 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Its simply impossible for it to be defining of an individual when its such a POV topic, there are no standards for anyone to declare someone a gay icon or "feminist icon" or "black icon" etc.★Trekker (talk) 08:40, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Precisely because it is such an imprecise term did I place it on all articles where there was a sourced claim that the person was a gay icon. Lady Gaga, for instance, is fairly widely agreed to be a gay icon, but including Lady Gaga and not, say, David Beckham, would be POV.
Further, 'gay icon' is a frequently used term, though ambiguous, to describe certain individuals. Though it's not their defining characteristic, neither are categories such as 'People born in 1996', yet we still add those categories.

Proposed deletion of Doros Loizou

edit

The article Doros Loizou has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails GNG and BIO, at best this subject is BIO1E, but there are no sources showing this meets IS, RS with SIGCOV addressing the subject directly and indepth.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.  // Timothy :: talk  00:27, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Wormwood Star (disambiguation)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Wormwood Star (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not _target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from List of whistleblowers into Cate Jenkins. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. However, I note that you have split text in several articles including Coloration evidence for natural selection , Disruptive coloration, Display (zoology), Handicap principle, and Paradox of the plankton (there may be many other examples) into multiple paragraphs.

This has been done without regard to the fact that this leaves fragmentary paragraphs without their citation, which was often at the end of the original paragraph. This in turn leaves the articles open to uninformed editors to tag the broken paragraphs with "Citation needed", and that in turn can lead to formal review and destruction of "Good article" status.

In addition, it splits paragraph-level subtopics into multiple pieces. Generally a single subtopic is covered in a single paragraph to indicate that just one thing is being discussed; obviously this structure and order is broken by splitting.

I will try to revert as much of the splitting as I can find, but I would not like to get into a split-and-mend race with you, so I am here drawing your attention to the issue, in the hope that you will a) stop splitting and b) revert the splits you have already made. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:31, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Location of Apalachee High School

edit

It was already discussed at Talk:2024_Apalachee_High_School_shooting/Archive_1#Location_of_the_school_is_not_in_Winder,_Georgia. The consensus comes from this discussion.

Secondly, I will repeat this statement:

  • From the city of Houston: " The U.S. Postal Service establishes ZIP codes and mailing addresses in order to maximize the efficiency of their system, not to recognize jurisdictional boundaries."

Many reliable sources just rely on the USPS addresses, which do not keep in mind municipal boundaries. The editors understand this, and they do keep in mind municipal boundaries, hence the talk page discussion, and why Attempted assassination of Donald Trump says the event happened near, not in, Butler, Pennsylvania. (see Talk:Attempted_assassination_of_Donald_Trump/Archive_4#Location_of_the_incident) WhisperToMe (talk) 15:55, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I went ahead and opened a new line of inquiry at Talk:2024_Apalachee_High_School_shooting#Location_of_the_school WhisperToMe (talk) 16:05, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
At first I didn't realize you were part of the previous discussion, re: previous messages (but there was no reply to my inquiries, so I considered the matter closed). Anyhow I found a Georgia State Highway map which directly shows the school as being outside the city limits (as in, all in the same document) so I hope that helps. Hausa animism

edit

Hi, I began looking at Hausa animism just about when you made your last edit there. My interest is the current article which I am working on User:Jacqke/Traditional African lutes in which the Bori ceremony is a feature of several of the musical instruments. Also the possession ceremonies of the Gnawa appear to be linked (but I notice all of that information seems to come from a single (rather old) source). I just wanted to express my interest. Best wishes, Jacqke (talk) 11:59, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
