Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Massachusetts
Points of interest related to Massachusetts on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Massachusetts. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Massachusetts|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Massachusetts. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to US.

This subject appears to fail WP:GNG for lack of WP:SIGCOV by unrelated parties. Interviews, WP:BLPSPS websites and the like don't help here. This subject also fails WP:NAUTHOR because contributions appear not to be very significant. And PEN New England Awards do not confer automatic notability. JFHJr (㊟) 01:11, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep, or rename. Her book, Dogtown, is notable, having won a PEN award and been reviewed by, e.g., The New York Times. We should have an article about the book or its author. pburka (talk) 04:30, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

The result was redirect to List of mayors of Fall River, Massachusetts. Star Mississippi 03:42, 14 December 2024 (UTC)

Non-notable local official. All news coverage I could find is from local outlets, and it all seems like the type of WP:ROTM coverage you'd expect to see for the mayor of the town. I don't think he meets GNG. I'd support a redirect to List of mayors of Fall River, Massachusetts. BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 02:05, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

- Comment Is there a citation to support
first successful recall election within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
? If so then I could see an argument for notability and expanding the article. TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 11:52, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- In that case, wouldn't this be an argument to have an article for the recall election itself, rather than Flanagan as a person? BottleOfChocolateMilk (talk) 16:10, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- To be frank, I'd expect us to have both coverage of the recall and a bio on the first person recalled. What we title the page and whether it is in two or one article I think is dependent on the amount and quality of sourcing. However, as it stands, there is no verification that he's even the first successfully recalled Massachusettsian. TulsaPoliticsFan (talk) 21:12, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete. None of the sources (at least the online ones) only contain passing mentions of the company; for example, source 2 literally just contains the phrase "The researchers have also launched a startup called Technext" and that's it. Others such as this source only give a small description of the company. Lacks WP:SIGCOV and fails WP:ORGCRIT due to the lack of significant coverage. Beachweak (talk) 09:26, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete – None of the sources contain significant coverage of the company itself with most of the mentions being trivial. Aviationwikiflight (talk) 16:13, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Fails WP:GNG. Being C-suite at a company is not an inherent designator of notability, especially for a company that isn't even in the Global 2000. Coverage is WP:ROUTINE industry reporting of the movement of executives, not WP:SIGCOV of the subject himself. Other coverage is in relation to who his daughter is or is WP:PROMO. - Keep The article is pretty poor but there are several full-length articles about him in AdWeek, plus the one listed in the article in Forbes. There is definitely more reliable content that could be added to the article. Lamona (talk) 03:18, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep Article that can be improved and better sources would be preferable, but currently this article seems admissible to me, it appeared in Adweek and Forbes SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 15:17, 9 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep There is one listed source with a link that no longer works, but the other two are not linked so it isn't clear how they can be "no longer working." I do find references to the club in various books: Walter B Cannon (source 2), The Psychiatric Persuasion, and mentions in this, this. Also, Harvard has digitized an archive of the Wicht club from 1904-1911, and I added that link to the article. Lamona (talk) 03:38, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep: Referenced, evidently early-career support for scientists at Harvard in first decade of 20th century. — Rgdboer (talk) 01:31, 6 December 2024 (UTC)

- Keep: does present a valid Reference of its existence, if too short of an article either label as a stub, or merge to the article Harvard College social clubs perhaps? As this seems to be within its relevance. And its actual existence is part of the university's history. Villkomoses (talk) 07:42, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
