Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Academy/2009 Content Drive

Help improve the Academy with our new content drive

edit

What is The Academy?

  • The Academy was set up to help editors of all levels broaden their range of article-building skills.
  • The content is essentially "how to", providing clear and easy-to-follow introductions and advice.
  • The content has many useful articles for newcomers, but also offers insights and advice about good working practices for those with more experience.
How can you help
  • You can help by contributing essays and articles, describing and explaining how to do various Wikipedian tasks. These can cover anything. Some ideas might include: best practice in creating stubs; how to upload a file; which categories to use; the difference between copyright and plagiarism; basic copy-editing; how to assess an article for B-class.
  • The ideal length is around four to six paragraphs, roughly 350 to 600 words.
  • Don't worry if your article might overlap slightly with others, or offers a slightly different perspective. There is rarely one way to skin a cat!
  • The immediate objective is to get the basic data in place and to expand the range of articles; the articles will inevitably be merged, consolidated or re-organised at a later stage. (This is after all a wiki!)

By way of incentive, and to add an element of friendly competition, we're initiated a contest - from 1 July though 31 October - for editors contributing Academy content. During the contest period, barnstars can be won by anyone who pens an essay for the Academy on an area not yet covered. If you would like to participate, please add a heading for your name in the "Contest" section below and list any articles you create under your name. (Please also mention whether you wish to receive your barnstars as you reach each milestone or altogether at the end of the contest.) The project coordinators will track content as it is added, and polish it as needed. If you have any questions, please raise them here. Thanks in advance for your participation.

Contest

edit

If you are participating in the academy writing contest list you name below, indicate whether you would like your rewards as you earn then or in one lump sum at the end of the contest, and add any academy pages you create to your section. Coordinators will monitor this section to answer any questions you may have concerning the writing contest.
