Monthly driver

edit

I'm ok with this but I'm looking for veiws! Do we need a Driver of the Month area. I think it is great! Chubbennaitor 19:38, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's OK with me, as long as it isn't restricted to 2008 drivers only.-- Diniz (talk) 19:41, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, no Sage said from any time when he asked me. Chubbennaitor 19:49, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Any driver from any time period may be eligible. From Gilles Villeneuve to Lewis Hamilton, anyone can be nominated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sage Callahan (talkcontribs) 20:20, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Background colour

edit

I'm afraid the bright yellow and green colours don't do anything for me, and I'd prefer it is they were changed back. One of the (informal) WP:F1 policies is to avoid big blocks of garish colour (see here and here for examples), so there are probably going to be some recipients who agree with me.-- Diniz (talk) 22:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I like the green for the F1DOM but I don't like what I did else where. Oh and the Improvement drive one came like that and is that colour. Chubbennaitor 16:47, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I suppose the green is OK, as it's one of the Brazilian national colours (for Senna). I would prefer it if the improvement drive and editors' comment boxes were the same shade of yellow as the boxes below them, however.-- Diniz(talk) 17:01, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I did that because the improvement drive background didn't blend in nicely. Chubbennaitor 20:44, 17 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
It does kinda work for DOM, but the pictures look a bit ugly having a white background on green. I can live with it, but its up to you. I really don't mind. Sage J Callahan 01:31, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Teams and Drivers

edit

I knpw that this may be late but are we able to put up the 'Grid' with statistics and pics? Chubbennaitor 20:34, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

We did that in the season preview issue, so I don't think it's especially important.-- Diniz(talk) 10:03, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well now we have pictures. Ignore that know. After the Istanbul race we could do a look back at the season so far sort of thing? Chubbennaitor 10:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't see why not.-- Diniz(talk) 20:24, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

DOM

edit

I have finished DOM. If you see any mistakes or could expand, please do so. Sage J Callahan 19:27, 24 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nice work! The only thing I would comment on is that almost every sentence reads "Senna is X", "Senna did Y" - could some pronouns be used in some cases?-- Diniz(talk) 20:25, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'll be running a final run-through of it today. I'm probably going to end up rewording most sentences so it would read better. Sage J Callahan 14:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
The article shows the entire page, which displays previous editions as well. Anyway to make it so the current one only? If not, I cant get rid of showing previous editions. Sage J Callahan 05:11, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are we looking at the future of F1 cars design section

edit

Can I add a section on the new designs on the Formula One cars. HondaF1 and BMW Sauber have the bull nose and (Toro Rosso,) Red Bull Racing and Renault F1 are using the shark fin! Chubbennaitor 16:53, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, all of that is already mentioned in the introduction, so is it worth repeating?-- Diniz(talk) 20:24, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

News limit

edit

I think it's a bit excessive to have 35 (and growing!) news articles, the oldest of which are about three weeks old and out-of-date. It also makes the news box on the left very long, leaving a gap in the central box despite the expansion to two images. I propose a limit of news items somewhere in the 15-20 range.-- Diniz(talk) 20:29, 25 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fine! Chubbennaitor 07:42, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, it looks better now.-- Diniz(talk) 10:18, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
edit

I was wondering whether there should be small edit icons on the edge of each section. Chubbennaitor 19:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's a good idea, if you know how to add them.--Diniz(talk) 18:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sending out date

edit

Does anyone object to the NW going out on June 10th? Chubbennaitor 11:05, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fine with me. Sage J Callahan 06:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Same here!--Diniz(talk) 18:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Month look-over box

edit

Can other people add to the month review box please because I'm going to need the help after the Canadian GP to complete it. Chubbennaitor 11:10, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Section widths

edit

Is it possible for the "News" and "Formula One News" boxes on the left to be widened slightly?--Diniz(talk) 18:42, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure, but how? Chubbennaitor 18:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I managed to work it out. ;)--Diniz(talk) 20:28, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I made it wider. It didn't look big enough. Chubbennaitor 20:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Does anyone know any general news on the F1 side of WP. Chubbennaitor 20:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ecclestone news

edit

The latest peace of news you (Diniz) added I deided wasn't suitable. I would have added it ages ago. On my scan through for unimportant news that will be moved. (I do this to cut down on the amount of news.) Chubbennaitor 15:08, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I suppose that it will be irrelevant once the outcome of this week's vote is known.--Diniz(talk) 17:54, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Selected picture

edit

Having a direct link to the image is better, as transcluding it for every newsletter means that it will change in all of them every month, and not just the latest issue.--Diniz(talk) 15:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've thought around it by subst: it after the pic changes. Chubbennaitor 19:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's a good idea!--Diniz(talk) 19:45, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Everybody..." Completing

edit

I'm not editing on Mon-Tue and only sending out the NW on Wed. I need anyone who is free to edit- to complete the month box and anything else. Even the F1POM with Sage. I need everyone to edit and add and review because I'm not here. It will need to be done otherwise it isn't going out. Chubbennaitor 20:13, 7 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

send Out

edit

If know one thinks it is ready for send out comment by 21:00 11/06/08. It is going out whether ready or not. Chubbennaitor 17:04, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Problem

edit

It has come to my attention that some people from the WP feel that we need more tings on the WPF1 than on F1 itself. Has anyone got answers. Chubbennaitor 20:05, 20 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Radical overhaul

edit

To address AlexJ and 4u1e's concerns, I believe that the newsletter requires a radical overhaul to move its focus away from generic F1 information and towards the specifics of the WikiProject. I propose the following:

  • Remove:
    • The quote box - superfluous.
    • The summary box below the Improvement Drive box - this has been used entirely to summarise general events in F1, and is not specific to the Project.
    • The Drivers' and Constructors' Championship box, and the GP results sub-boxes - for the same reason.
  • Change:
  • Include/Add:
    • All FACs, GACs, PRs for articles, lists and pictures, and whether the result is success or failure.
    • A list of new F1 articles that have been created (difficult to keep track of but not impossible).
    • Summaries of recent important developments at WT:F1, with links to relevant sections.
    • This table, which shows WPF1 article assessment status (it should be subst'd before the newsletter is sent out, as the statistics change regularly).
  • Other recommendations:
    • Include a link to the newsletter-in-progress on the main newsletter page, allowing others to edit it easily and thus helping us to keep track of WPF1 developments which we don't know about. Vandalism, if it occurs, can be dealt with in no time at all.
    • If any subpages are still required (e.g. F1DOM and F1POM), they should be moved out of user page spage and into Wikipedia: space.

Just my two cents.--Diniz(talk) 13:42, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've made a rough draft of this revised design in my sandbox.--Diniz(talk) 15:57, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I like it but I think the results should stay. It is what WPF1 does so I think that should be introduced. I like everything else that you've done. It's not going to be as fun to keep up-to-date but I like it. Chubbennaitor 16:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think the F1POM should stay as it's part of WPF1 but F1DOM should be removed. I don't like it anymore. The link to this page is annoying because then there's no point in having contributors. Chubbennaitor 16:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! The main problem I have with the results is that they duplicate what any member of WPF1 should already know, or can easily find out in the relevant articles. I would prefer not to include them if possible. Concerning F1POM, I don't mind so much about that. In which section do you think it should go?--Diniz(talk) 17:18, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have asked for assistance at the Help Desk on a couple of technical things I would like to do with the format but don't know how. One of these would be to make the block gallery of new images collapsible within the newsletter. If this could happen, then it would be logical to put the F1POM immediately above it.--Diniz(talk) 17:22, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah but the NW is meant to tell people about what happened it doesn't matter f they already know. It's meant to be thee and know. Chubbennaitor 17:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

How do we make the results collapsible. Look at my editing review. Chubbennaitor 18:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've worked out how to adjust the gallery format, but not how to make the internal sections collapsible. I'll have to wait for a reply at the Help Desk.--Diniz(talk) 19:11, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
The gallery of images has been collapsed and hidden using the {{hidden}} template, but this doesn't work with tables due to the coding. The {{collapse}} template might work, but the results tables would have to be converted to more basic wikitables and the notes underneath them removed.--Diniz(talk) 19:35, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, I mean all the F1 result boxes within the NW collapsible. Chubbennaitor 20:03, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I understand, but I'm not sure how to do it because neither the hidden nor collapse templates work with the current format.--Diniz(talk) 20:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Should I copy the newsletter in my sandbox to the next newsletter page?--Diniz(talk) 20:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maybe. Let me look at it first. Chubbennaitor 18:01, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Have you come to a decision yet?--Diniz(talk) 21:58, 28 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes move the everything apart from the results and replace everything except the results. Chubbennaitor 08:19, 29 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

F1 POM

edit

I think the F1 POM should not be hidden, as the current images section does not by default show any images, and only has three lines of text. The F1 POM is the month's "best" F1 image, and I think it would be better if it were on display. It would also draw people into looking at all of the other new images immediately below.--Diniz(talk) 00:00, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Great I was thining of that too. Chubbennaitor 16:48, 3 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Contributors

edit

Does anyone now how to get the NW more wide-spread and get more contributors? Chubbennaitor 16:24, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

News articles

edit

Do you remember when I added the news article names, well I think t was useful because it provided preferences for anyone who could right down anything from them into the Wikipedia. Just a thought. Does anyone have any ideas for something new? Chubbennaitor 19:14, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

September Article of the Month

edit

Should this be the recently passed FA 1995 Pacific Grand Prix? Just a thought. Cadan ap Tomos 14:42, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know actually I'd say yes go for it but I left it to Diniz because I said oh he knows what he's doing so there we go. Chubbennaitor 15:38, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, 1995 Pacific Grand Prix would be the best choice.--Diniz(talk) 16:12, 11 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

How do we make this more popular and more widely known? Chubbennaitor 19:38, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not here for large enough amounts all week. Can this be sent out. Put in 200810 slot as normal. Chubbennaitor 17:26, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

All done!--Diniz(talk) 16:34, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Again. I'll try tomorow. Chubbennaitor 20:44, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! I'm afraid I won't be able to send it out this time, as I'me very busy this week with work and social events (it's the last week of full term for me! ;) )--Diniz(talk) 23:06, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I just sent it out I think. Had an early finish at uni, so had some time to burn. –Cs-wolves(talk) 12:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I won a karting GP last night. Chubbennaitor 17:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow, you guys are quick! I put 2008 Brazilian Grand Prix up for GA last night (my time) and it's already here! Thanks (and I think I'll subscribe if all the content is that good ;)). Apterygial talkstalkinsane idea 00:18, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

No recent images

edit

AFAIK, no F1-related images have been uploaded since the last newsletter was sent out. Should we (a) go for an older image, or (b) comment out the section and restore it for the next issue? --Diniz(talk) 20:59, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Use the one from the portal. Chubbennaitor 21:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
