Accentological notes
editAccording to historian Smirnov 2003: 40, ‟the pronunciation of the Ataman’s surname began to be distorted after November 1917 and in the writings of communist historians, putting stress on the letter ‘e’”. Apparently this statement is incorrect and is refuted by Mayakovsky’s poem ‟Blue Lampasses” 1927‒1928:
- Ерма́к не оди́н:
из но́чи и льди́н
встаёт генера́л Каледи́н.
According to Zaliznyak 1985: 82, the suffix changed the accent marking, transferring the form to another accent category.
