мома
Bulgarian
editEtymology
editAccording to Bulgarian Etymological Dictionary, of babbling origin similar to ма́ма (máma, “mom”), на́на (nána, “aunty, female relative”). No exact cognates outside of Balkan Slavic (Bulgarian, Macedonian, Serbo-Croatian), thus, possibly a neologism. Formally, may result from a reduplication of Proto-Indo-European *meh₂- (“to mature, to ripen”) (whence perhaps Proto-Celtic *makʷos (“son”)).
