Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Slavic *mъrmoriti, whence also Serbo-Croatian мрморити, of onomatopoeic origin. For similar onomatopoeiae, compare English murmur, Albanian mërmërit, Latin murmurō, Ancient Greek μορμύρω (mormúrō).
