Etymology

From *quduğ (well) (compare Old Uyghur [script needed] (quduğ), Karakhanid [script needed] (quδuğ, well), from Proto-Turkic *kud- (to pour).

This is the native Kypchak development from the above archetype, as opposed to ҡоҙоҡ (qoźoq), ҡотоҡ (qotoq), which have evolved from the same Proto-Turkic archetype, but via intermediary sources.

Compare with Tatar кое (qoye), Crimean Tatar quyu, Turkish kuyu (well).
