editEtymology
editSince Lidén usually considered inherited from Proto-Indo-European *tm̥peh₂, from the root *temp- (“to extend, stretch, span”), and cognate with Lithuanian ti̇̀mpa (“sinew”), Old Norse þǫmb (“paunch; bowstring”), but Ačaṙean rejects this and leaves the origin open.
