Old Armenian

Etymology

edit

From earlier *կաղթն (*kałtʻn), from Proto-Armenian *gl̥kt-m, accusative of *gl̥kt-s (whence dialectal կախց (kaxcʻ)), either inherited from Proto-Indo-European *gl̥gt- or borrowed from a Mediterranean substrate source; in any case related to Ancient Greek γάλα (gála, milk), Albanian dhallë, and Old Latin lact (milk).
