הִצִּית • (hitsít) (hif'il construction, passive counterpart הוצת / הֻצַּת)

1. to light, kindle, start (a fire)
   • Tanach, Jeremiah 11:16, with translation of the Jewish Publication Society:

     זַיִת רַעֲנָן יְפֵה פְרִי־תֹאַר קָרָא יְהוָה שְׁמֵךְ לְקוֹל הֲמוּלָּה גְדֹלָה הִצִּית אֵשׁ עָלֶיהָ וְרָעוּ דָּלִיּוֹתָיו׃

     záyit ra'anán y'fé f'ri-tó'ar kará YHVH sh'mékh l'kól hamulá g'dolá hitsít 'ésh 'aléha v'ra'ú daliyotáv.
     záyiṯ raʿănān yəp̄ē p̄ərī-ṯṓʾar qārā YHWH šəmēḵ ləqōl hămullā ḡəḏōlā hiṣṣīṯ ʾēš ʿāléhā wərāʿū dāliyyōṯāw.

     The Lord called thy name a leafy olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit; with the noise of a great tumult He hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.
