From Chagatai اخشام (aχšam) or اقشام (aqšam), from Karakhanid اَخْشَمْ (aχšam), Proto-Turkic *axĺam, from Sogdian [script needed] (χšʾm).[1] Cognates with Turkish akşam, Azerbaijani axşam.
