editFrom Middle Persian brʾcytn' (brāzidan, “to shine, gleam”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰreh₁ǵ- (“to gleam, shine”). See also Proto-Albanian *bardza, English bright, Lithuanian brékšti (“to dawn”), Slovene brẹ̑sk (“dawn”).
