From Middle Persian brʾcytn' (brāzidan, to shine, gleam), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰreh₁ǵ- (to gleam, shine). See also Proto-Albanian *bardza, English bright, Lithuanian brékšti (to dawn), Slovene brẹ̑sk (dawn).
