Inherited from Middle Persian *uzmōxt, from Proto-Iranian *uc- (outward, upward, away) + the stem known from Avestan 𐬟𐬭𐬀𐬨𐬎𐬑𐬙𐬌 f (framuxti, unleashing), Sanskrit मुक्ति f (mukti, liberation), मुक्त (mukta, free).
