editFrom Middle Persian [Term?] (/sbwk/), from Proto-Iranian *θrapuka-, from Proto-Iranian *θrap- (“to be unsteady”), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *trep- (“to tremble”); if so, then cognate with Latin trepidus (“nervous, perilous”) and Russian трепа́ть (trepátʹ, “to scutch; to flutter”).[1]
