Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kïsrak (young unprolific animal) and thus related to قیصیر (kısır, barren, sterile); cognate with Azerbaijani qısraq, Karakhanid قِسْراقْ (qïsra:q), Salar qısıraq and Turkmen gysyrak.
