Etymology

edit

Compare Akkadian 𒀀𒊩𒄷 (/laqlaqqu/, stork) and Persian لک‌لک (lak-lak). It is possible that the term came from Akkadian via unattested Aramaic, as بَلَّارِج (ballārij) is suspect to be from a lost Coptic form, for currently the animal is, despite multiple known terms in Aramaic, only attested in the literary lects of Jewish Literary Aramaic and Classical Syriac.
