Borrowed from Aramaic נוקניק (nūqānīq), variant of לוקניק (lūqānīq), from Byzantine Greek λουκάνικον (loukánikon), λουκάνικα (loukánika), from Latin lūcānica (sausage from Lūcānia). Cognate to Greek λουκάνικο (loukániko), Arabic نُقَانِق (nuqāniq), لُقَانِق (luqāniq), Hebrew נַקְנִיק (naqnīq).
