editFrom earlier چاکو (čākū) from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ckwc /čakuč/, “hammer”), from Avestan 𐬗𐬀𐬐𐬎𐬱 (cakuš, “battle-axe”), from Proto-Indo-European *keku- (“cudgel, hammer shaped stick”). Related to Ottoman Turkish چاقی (çakı).[1]
