From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gwd /⁠gōy⁠/, ball). Cognate with Sanskrit गोल (gola), Persian گلوله (golule, pellet; bullet), Northern Luri گولٛاْ (goła, pellet), Central Kurdish گولە (gule) and گۆ (go, ball), Northern Kurdish gog (ball), Zazaki gudi (ball; round) and an Iranian loanword in Classical Syriac ܓܘܝܐ (gōyāʾ).
