Etymology
editFrom Aramaic כַּלְבָּא (kalbā), from Proto-Semitic *kalb-; compare Arabic كَلْب (kalb), Hebrew כֶּלֶב (kélev) and Akkadian 𒌨 (kalbum). The latter noun is an occupational noun derived from the former; compare Arabic كَلَّاب (kallāb).
