Etymology
editFrom Proto-Indo-Aryan *Háśriṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háćriš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂óḱris (“sharp edge, top, angle, corner”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὄκρις (ókris, “point, prominence”), Latin ocris (“crag”).
