From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Háśriṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háćriš, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂óḱris (sharp edge, top, angle, corner). Cognate with Ancient Greek ὄκρις (ókris, point, prominence), Latin ocris (crag).
