Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀙𑁄𑀕𑀭 (chogara), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀙𑁄𑀓-𑀭 (*choka-ra). Related to छोकरा (chokrā). Cognate with Nepali छोरो (choro), Bengali ছোঁড়া (chō̃ṛa).
