editInherited from Sanskrit धानेयक (dhāneyaka) or धानेय (dhāneya, “coriander”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from धाना (dhānā, “grain”), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *dʰaHnáH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰaHnáH, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰoHnéh₂. Cognate with Persian دانه (dâne, “grain”). Doublet of दाना (dānā).
