Borrowed from Classical Persian نزدیک (nazdīk), from Middle Persian [script needed] (nzdyk' /⁠nazdīk⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *názdyah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *názdyas, from Proto-Indo-European *nésdyos. Compare Gujarati નજીક (najīk), Hindi नज़दीक (nazdīk), Punjabi ਨਜ਼ਦੀਕ (nazdīk) / نَزدیک (nazdek), ਨਜੀਕ (najīk) / نَجیک (najek), Nepali नजिक (najik).
