editInherited from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hnawamás (“ninth”); ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₁néwn̥ (“nine”). Cognate with Old Persian 𐎴𐎺𐎶 (n-v-m /navama/), Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬊𐬨𐬀 (naoma), 𐬥𐬁𐬎𐬨𐬀 (nāuma), Khotanese 𑀦𑁅𑀫 (nauma), Sogdian [script needed] (nʾwmyk).
