    Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀟𑀇 (paḍaï), from Sanskrit पत॑ति (pátati), from Proto-Indo-European *péth₂eti, from *peth₂-. Compare Punjabi ਪੈਣਾ (paiṇā), Nepali पर्नु (parnu), Gujarati પડવું (paḍvũ), Bengali পড়া (poṛa), Assamese পৰা (pora).
