Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi पासुनि (pāsuni), पासूनि (pāsūni), पासौनि (pāsauni), पासौनिया (pāsauniyā). Equivalent to पास (pās) + हून (hūn) / ऊन (ūn). पास (pās) from Old Marathi पसाओ (pasāo), पासाव (pāsāva), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀲𑁆𑀲 (passa), from Sanskrit पार्श्व (pārśva). Doublet of पाशी (pāśī). Compare जवळपास (j̈avaḷpās). Cognate to Hindi पास (pās, near).
