Etymology
editFrom Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hwā́stu, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwā́stu, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wóstu, from *h₂wes- (“to dwell”). Cognate with Tocharian B ost. The Sanskrit root is वस् (vas, “to dwell”).[1]
