From Proto-Indo-Aryan *sáHdʰ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sáHdʰ, from Proto-Indo-European *seHdʰ-; cognate with Old Armenian աջ (, right) and perhaps Ancient Greek ἰθύς (ithús, straight, direct).
