Inherited from Early Assamese গাৱ (gawo), from Sanskrit গাত্ৰ (gātra, limb). Cognate with Kamta গাও (gaö), Sylheti ꠉꠣ (ga), Bengali গা (ga), Rohingya gaa, Hindi गात (gāt).
