Cognate with Sylheti ꠌꠣꠃꠟ (saul), Rohingya soil, Assamese চাউল (saul), Odia ଚାଉଳ (cāuḷa), Bihari चाउर (cāur), Gujarati ચાવળ (cāvaḷ), Nepali चाँवल (cā̃wal), Nepali चामल (cāmal), Hindustani चावल (cāval) / چاول (cāval), Punjabi ਚਾਵਲ (cāval), ਚੌਲ (caul), Sindhi چانور (cā̃uru), Persian چلو (čelow).[1]
