Inherited from Prakrit 𑀅𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀯𑀸𑀟𑀕 (akkhavāḍaga), from Sanskrit अक्षवाट (akṣavāṭa, wrestling-ground). Sense 4 is a semantic loan from Hindustani اَکھاڑَا / अखाड़ा (akhāṛā). Cognate with Bengali আখড়া (akhoṛa), Hindi अखाड़ा (akhāṛā), and Sindhi آکاڙو / आखाड़ो (ākhāṛo).
