From Proto-Southwestern Tai *kʰwiːᴮ (to ride), from Middle Chinese (MC gje, “to ride”).[1] Cognate with Lao ຂີ່ (khī), ᦃᦲᧈ (ẋii¹), Tai Dam ꪄꪲ꪿, Shan ၶီႇ (khìi), Ahom 𑜁𑜣 (khī), Zhuang gwih, Nong Zhuang kiq.
