From Proto-Tai *ɗajꟲ (to obtain). Cognate with Lao ໄດ້ (dai), Northern Thai ᨯᩱ᩶, ᦺᦡᧉ (ḋay²), Shan လႆႈ (lāi), Tai Dam ꪼꪒ꫁, Zhuang ndaej. Compare Sui qdyais (to get, to obtain), Southern Kam lis (to get), Proto-Hlai *ɗɯː (to get).
