Inherited from Old Burmese ဟြိ (hri), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *sri (to exist). Cognate with Tibetan སྲིད་པ (srid pa) and Old Chinese (OC *r̥ʰiːʔ, “body, limbs; state, form”) (STEDT).
