Etymology

လက် (lak, sleeves) +‎ ရှည် (hrany, long), from the Burmese association of Hokkien settlers with merchant trade. Conversely, the Cantonese and Toisanese were associated with artisanship and manual work, hence the name လက်တို (laktui).
