editFrom Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s(y)ar (“louse”). Cognate with Akha [script needed] (shɛ́-mɔ̀, “idem”) (STEDT). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “Does the "tree bark" sense belong with the "louse" sense? MED separates the two.”)
