Etymology
editWasei kango (和製漢語), orthographically borrowed from Japanese 味精 (misei), coined by Kikunae Ikeda circa 1908. In Japan, it was renamed to 味の素 (ajinomoto) ( > 味之素 (wèizhīsù) ) for commercial reasons.
