Noun
edit時務
- current affairs; current situation;
- trend of the times; zeitgeist
- 今之所謂識時務者見人之讀聖書守舊儀者,輒以爲不合時宜,而非斥之。此輩心中只一「時」字作祟。故時乎倭,則是急乎事倭,時乎洋,則又急乎從洋。 [Korean Literary Sinitic, trad.]
- From: 1946, letter by Kim Yeong'ik (金永益)
- Geum ji sowi sik simu ja gyeon in ji dok seongseo su guui ja, cheop iwi bulhap siui, i bicheok ji. Cha bae simjung ji il "si" ja jak su. Go si ho Wae, jeuk si geup ho sa Wae; si ho Yang, jeuk u geup ho jong Yang. [Sino-Korean]
- When these people of today who are supposedly knowledgeable about the trends of these times see those who read the books of the Sages and keep to the customs of old, they always believe that they are going against what is appropriate for these times, and upbraid them. The single word "[these] times" causes perversion in the minds of these fellows. Therefore, when the times were on the side of the Japanese, they hastened to serve the Japanese; the times being on the side of the Westerners, they now hasten to submit to the Westerners.
- (Zhao'an Hakka) time; moment
