      (おお)()()のほうも、すでに(とく)(のう)たちから、「(しぶ)(さわ)というなまいき(きゅう)(ばく)(しん)がいる」ときいていたので、すでに(しぶ)(さわ)(たい)する(せん)(にゅう)(かん)()(てい)(かん)(ねん)があった。
      Ōkubo no hō mo, sudeni Tokunō-tachi kara,“Shibusawa to iu namaiki na kyū-bakushin ga iru” to kiite ita no de, sudeni Shibusawa ni taisuru sennyūkan ya kotei kannen ga atta.
      Ōkubo for his part had already heard things from Tokunō and others such as, “There is an impertinent former bakufu retainer called Shibusawa,” and so he already had some preconception and personal prejudice against Shibusawa.
